Evening primrose capsules...

I did read your post emma I just think that no one is discussing harmful ways of induction! Evening primrose oil is very good for you as are the rest of stuff some ladies like to try out to get labour started!

 Lily that's a good point about sex!!! :)

Ok, but im really not sure that poking capsules up your vagina is hygenic or safe at all tbh.

A friend of mine ate the recommended 8 pineapples and ended up in hospital with chronic stomach cramps and a distressed baby. I just think SOME not all theories have risks that people do not seem to consider because they are so focused on inducing labour. It seems very silly to me tbh...But like I say, each to their own :)

but as i say, having sex with your oh may not be hygenic. gosh, his dick might have rubbed against something and got germs on heaven forbid but youd do it anyway, so would most people.
its the same thing really.
bvut i agree, eating 8 pineapples seem a bit extreame, but i dought anyone on here has said theyd do that/would have the stamia to even eat that many! lol

As I have just said on the other post perrienal massage is practically the same you have to rub oil inside you so is that unsafe too?!? Cos that's highly recommended by midwives and doctors!

It's not an induction method though is it!

I'm not sure you could class epo as an "induction method", more fanny prep. It contains natural prostaglandins which help down there.

Rub some on your bump. I always felt those stretching ligaments afterwards, all helps us go in the right direction ( says me who has been induced medically twice at 2 weeks late!!!!!!! Lolol)

Oh I don't see harm in rubbing it on your bump, but inserting it to me is unhygenic and if not recommended by the Dr, pointless!

The doctor reccommended they broke my waters through my posterior cervix....what an experience.... Pass me the epo....

Amyjayne.......Oh my freaking word. Bet those contractions had a 'pinch' to them lol.

As a student midwife, It would be my professional opinion that there's nothing wrong with inserting a capsule...As long as you make sure your hands are clean, and the capsule hasn't been dropped and come straight from the bottle. There were a few women that came in that had done this, and after a few nights they "apparently" went into labour!
I Have no idea if it really did anything to induce labour at all though..

If you're going to do it, I would suggest putting a small pinprick in the capsule first, purely because both women I spoke to had done this :)

Putting the oil on bump and in the bath can be really soothing too.

I assume the 'pin' you would recommend be sterilised before use?

Also, how can anyone know there hands are thoroughly clean/the soap used to clean will not cause irritation up there? Surely your recommendation would be better if you advised to use surgical gloves?

When Im having a bit of personal time :)blush:) I dont wear surgical gloves......

No offence emma but you're a little ott! Next you'll be suggesting that everyone should wear surgical masks and gowns around your new born to ensure no germs get on them. Not to be crude but you don't wear surgical gloves to *shock horror* masterbate and you don't sterilise vibrators so why would you wear surgical gloves to insert epo? (actually maybe you do do those things!). Inserting epo may do nothing at all but it's certainly not going to cause birth defects-way to scare the shit out of someone! Scare mongering isn't big or clever.

I don't think she's trying to scare anyone, shes just bringing the (debatable) dangers to the surface.

Well said x

Lol... Who'd have thought we'd be debating what to stick up our fanny's on a thursday morning :)
