Hi everyone!

My name is Emily Teape and I am a student at The Cairnmillar Institute School of Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy completing my Graduate Diploma of Psychology. I am currently conducting research regarding the experience of infertility and how the process of In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) may impact on an individual’s psychological functioning. In particular, we are interested in knowing more about what how IVF might contribute to an individual experiencing symptoms of trauma and stress, and what other factors might be associated with symptoms.

We are currently recruiting participants for this study. If you are currently undergoing IVF, or have completed an IVF process in the past three months, you are eligible to participate and we would be very keen to know more about your experience. Participants may be of any gender, single or partnered, and of any sexual orientation. Participation simply involves the completion of an online survey, which should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. It is hoped that the findings of this research will help medical practitioners, psychologists and counsellors to understand more about the psychological effects of IVF and may lead to improved services for others undergoing such treatments in the future.

If you would like more information regarding the study or to begin the online survey, please click here:

Kindest Regards,

Emily Teape.

Hi Emily, this sounds very interesting! I am a psychotherapist myself and have just had my 3rd cycle of IVF! I would be happy to take part in your research and will complete your survey tomorrow!

I have just done your survey, it was very interesting. I just wanted to say that the question about 'when you were first told you couldn't have children naturally' doesn't apply to most people because doctors now are unwilling to give us absolutes. They are more likely to say we have reduced chances or something like that unless someone had no womb or something drastic like that! So when I answered that question I took it as the day my GP handed me a printout on infertility after I'd just seen my newly married younger neighbour breeze out to make a midwife appointment after getting her unexpected pregnancy confirmed!

Blueflower is right! I would do it but I am not having IVF until the end of the year. I have never actually been told I can't have children naturally - it has been me pushing for answers all the way.

Thank you everyone so much for your help and suggestions!! :) I will make sure I amend my thesis so that it does not say you can't have children naturally. I want my research to be as accurate and from the point of view of people going through IVF. So thank you very much! :)

I've had such a great response from you all! Thank you so so much for your help with my research!! :) The survey is going to be open for another 2 weeks, so if you wanted to participate you still can. Still need 50 more participants if possible. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!

Wishing you all the best,
Emily.
