Bottles?

Just wondering what everyone is thinking about buying bottles, if you are hoping to breastfeed.
Do you buy some just in case you can't?

Just unsure what to do.

ive never breast fed but my advice to anyone who is going to breast feed is to buy bottle too, for two reasons

1) incase baby doesnt take to it or you dont produce enough milk

2) you can use a breast pump and let your partner feed the baby too so they can bond as feeding a baby is a great way to bond but dads miss out on breast fed babies

I ebf and we bought bottles and a steriliser just incase, but I use them everyday as I have to pump in the morning because my boobs get engorged and my let down is to forceful for Lo to handle. So I'd say yes definitely get some xx

i have bought a few newborn ones, but I am going to wait until i get the breastfeeding talk at parent craft meetings. I have heard if you are breastfeeding you should NEVER use bottles as it confuses the baby and it doesnt latch on as well?

so I have a few in case i just cant do it, but not going to buy anymore until I know what I am doing. x

I am planning to part breastfeed, part bottled breastmilk, from as early as possible as I'm going to have to go back to work after 2 months by the looks of things. If for whatever reason I can't express or anything I will have to accept that breast feeding won't be an option for me.

I'm prepared for all eventualities though, and gone for Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature collection. Fingers crossed I'll be breastfeeding and expressing as planned xx

I want to exclusively breastfeed but obviously the most important thing is that baby gets nurishment.

I guess I'll buy some bottles, a steriliser and some formula 'just in-case' and return what I don't need? (I'll give the formula away!!)

I am planning to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 weeks and then I will start expressing as well.

We bought the Tommee Tippee starter set as this had everything we needed in it for the bottle feeding bit and it has all the bottles we need in case he won;t take the boob at all

This isn't true.. they say to make sure breast feeding is well established before introducing bottles, dummies and what not to avoid nipple confusion, but nowhere does it say NEVER to use bottles when you ebf! I use bottles twice a day and my lo has no problems with her latch what so ever xx

I always planned to bf until at least 6 months. But at 14 and half weeks I had to switch to bottles due to tongue tie. Thankfully I prepared for worst case scenario and bought bottles, steriliser and formula just in case.x

Yup this is a horrible misconception and I think it makes life really hard for new mums. I plan on using bottled breastmilk as soon as breastfeeding is established because I will need DH, MIL and mum to feed for me regularly, and unfortunately they can't take my boobs with them.

I feel like it's a bit sad that most women don't realise it's not as simple as either breast or bottle, they can work beautifully together!! xx

I plan to breastfeed but have bought Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles in case it doesn't work. Also want DH to be able to give feeds (expressed milk) so that he gets that time with LO as well.

Ideally I want to demand feed for the first few months at least and for that reason I plan not to express and use bottles.

OH and I have had a chat about it all and he realises that for the first few months bub is going to rely on me solely for food, but I have also explained that I want OH to feel happy and confident to hold / change / bath / comfort baby from birth.

I haven't read a vast amount about demand feeding but from the little I do know it makes sense to me.

However I am open minded and I will do whatever I need to do to keep baby healthy and well fed, so if I do have to use bottles and formula I am not going to beat myself up about it or feel guilty!

Ive breast fed all three of mine with no problems and will be breast feeding this little one too. I find that its just so much easier! With my first i did buy a steriliser and bottles but tbh it was a waste of money because it never got used xx

Btw dads don't miss out on feeding if baby is breastfed. Mine did winding and cuddles after feeds usually leading to a sleepy baby on him for hours.

Dads can be involved in everything, bottle feeding can share the work but there is plenty for dad to do other than feeding the baby.

I am planning on breastfeeding however ive bought a manual pump, microwave steriliser and 8 bottles in 2 sizes all anti colic. All tommee tippee, just in case!
Theyve just reduced the tommee tippee steriliser again in mothercare (or asda cant remember which) to £17 now - again! I paid £21 x
