Am worried I've harmed LO

The British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) says that there has never been any evidence of harm resulting from the use of ultrasound in pregnancy. Hand-held Dopplers work by using very low power levels, called continuous wave Doppler. This means they are safe to use over a long period. The CTG machines that midwives sometimes use in labour to monitor a baby work in the same way x

My mw told me not to use one - for 2 reasons, 1 is ul worry your socks off if you cant get a hb one day, and 2 is that there isn't enough research done on them, mw's only use them once every couple of weeks. I'm sure everything will be fine, but as the other ladies said, maybe its best to cut down to once a week. When you get further along you'll feel movements anyway, so you wont need it.

Dont worry, we all stress about pregnancy, especially first time round.

:)

Fetal dopplers don't cause any medical problems with the unborn, it simply just annoys them!
However if you're only using it for a short moment, That's fine and I doubt baby will be annoyed with you for that. He/she probably won't even realise.

I was told there wasn't enough research to say wether it is or isn't dangerous. I dont think any of us are qualified enough to give a statement such as...it is definately not dangerous ect. Obviously we'll all have our own opinion about it. But the bottom line is the research hasn't been done. Its doubtful that it will cause serious problems, but unfortunately no-one really knows. Its just one of those things.

Mrsmc I hope you are ok and not worrying too much. I'm sure baby will be fine.

In a couple of weeks time you will feel baby moving. I was 16 weeks and it felt like tickles, then you can hold back on using the doppler xx

I used mine lots as Maisie wasnt a big mover and it stopped me worrying and she fine xx

Mrsmc, don't worry hun. Normal ultrasound is much more powerful, and many girls need to have it regularly.

I wouldn't use the doppler every day though - as other girls said, there is just not enough research yet to say that it's 100% safe. Just cut down to a couple of times a week. And when you'll start feeling the baby move you won't need it anymore anyway!

xx

Yeh thanks everyone had such bad day yesterday!
Gonna try and leave it a couple of weeks to use the doppler I find it hard cos I worry so much

Have you thought about trying pregnancy yoga? To calm your nerves a bit? Might help, and then you might not need to doppler so much!

Hey

I've never heard of dopplers damaging LO's hearing, I just heard that it could annoy them! Most babies seem to move away from them don't they?

I was set on getting one, but I didn't want to get too tempted to use it all the time.

Maybe if you don't want to sell it then try to only use it once or twice a week...

xx

hun I think it is only natural to worry I was the same when I was having Alex I would use it every other day and he is fine! Even when I could feel movements if he had been a bit on the quiet side I would use the doppler and check. It is only for a few seconds but it offers a little reassurance. Like the others have said try not to do it all the time as you will be unnecessarily stressing yourself out.
After everything you have been through it is natural you are worrying but please try not too and please try and enjoy your pregnancy as it really does fly by xx
