We have our appointment with the consultant tomorrow to start our ivf. Anyone got any tips as to what to ask or what happens etc? Quite nervous about it all xx

:pompom:No advice but wanted to wish you all the best! :)

They will cover everything you need to know I always find it good to make notes during the appointments as it's information overload. Best of luck for tomorrow xxx

All went ok, they went through the consent forms and the process of ivf. We had to book in a nurses appointment where they will tell us about meds and how to inject. Hubby had to book in for a sample, which we did for the same day. They said ill have to go in for a baseline scan when my period arrives and then its all go. Im a bit impatient and just want to get on with it all now haha, im only on day 10! Never thought id want my period to hurry up! Next appt is 16th sept! Exciting but nerve wracking. Xx

Hi hun, you're almost the same as me although I'm going through stimulated iui. We have our chat and plan booked for 17th sept where we find out the date we start, dates of scans etc, get shown how to do the injections... All go from there.

I've also got to have a baseline scan between cd1-4 which is just lovely as obviously af will still be visiting. Suppose they've seen it all before but it doesn't make it any less awkward. :oooo:

So is your next appointment also your chat and plan?

Yeah it is our chat/plan & get shown how to inject, so guess we will be going through the journey together :-) I have to go for baseline scan on day 1-3 which sounds grim, not looking forward to that one bit. When is af due for u?

Yay, a cycle buddy! :)

No idea when af is due as I am irregular, think they will induce af if she hasn't shown by the appointment though as we need to get started. Are your af's regular?

I am regular give or take a few days. Af will be due end of that week of 16th so we will be cycle buddies yay! Im quite nervous about the injections! What clinic are u at? Are u getting iui on nhs? This will be our one and only try on nhs, so hope its 1st time lucky.

Hopefully we will be cycle buddies, will depend on what happens with my af, whether they choose to wait for it or induce it. Even inducing it might take a little while. I've been told you get a rubber patch to practice injections on at the chat and plan but I've also been told by someone at the same clinic as me that I do my first injection there... I'm not 100% sure on that as I thought I had to wait for af. Hmm, will find out soon enough I suppose!

I'm at a clinic in the south east, what about you? Yes, iui funded by nhs, we are massively lucky in that we actually get 6 nhs funded iui cycles but my consultant told me that she prefers to switch to ivf if the 3rd round doesn't show that it's working as they would like it to but we will cross that bridge when we come to it as I'd rather continue with iui til we run out of cycles.

There's a few videos on YouTube that I watched of people doing their iui injections to sort of prepare myself for the chat and plan.. Think I ended up freaking myself out cos I have a slight needle phobia! Lol.

I had acupuncture to help with my needle phobia, its not the same as an injection obviously but did help a bit. I had my baseline scan on day 4 so AF was nearly over, I didn't need a tampon and so luckily the scan thingy wasn't too gross! I figure the nurses must have seen lots of blood down there so its not gross for them! Hope its ok for you too!

Oh gawd, acupuncture scares me more than the injections! Lol. My af is usually 4-6 days long so hopefully af will be almost out by then lol. But if its booked for the beginning of the cycle then that's the worst! :faint:

I'm at a clinic in the south and can't believe how much funding varies its not fair really, I think everyone should be given 3 goes across the board.

I looked at you tube at injection videos but scared me even more.

I had acupuncture for one cycle in June and although it didn't help us fall, it was really relaxing. I am probably going to go during treatment as I want to try everything we possibly can to help the cycle be successful.

I feel awful saying what we are allowed to have on the nhs cos I know it's not the same in other areas. :(

Dont be silly, im pleased for u, its not ur fault the system is not fair! Xx

I still feel awful though. It's unbelievable how much the system varies. Do you know what you're entitled to with ivf?

One cycle and thats it, so even if cycle is cancelled because of over stimulation then we have to pay for a frozen cycle.

Gosh, I'm sorry. But as they say, it only takes one so you really do just never know. I have everything crossed for you that the cycle of iui does the job and you get your BFP. I've heard lots of good things about a fertility clinic called ARGC? Think that's what it is.. They're meant to have a fairly high success rate and their ivf cycle is cheaper than my clinic. I pray that you won't need it but I had a nosey at it after hearing lots of good things about it and I've kept it bookmarked as a "just in case" thing. Don't know if you'd be interested in having a Google about it but that's entirely up to you.

This thread is really interesting to read! Ill be going through this from 20th November so great full to be able to see what the first steps are etc. wishing u all lots of luck :) xxx
