£3 school shoes

Hi my son 11 wearers £3 primark plimsolls as school shoes as they are recommended by the school as a cheap alternative to school shoes. However they look like they could fall apart soon should i buy him a new pair now or should I wait until after Christmas ? He's been wearing them since September
