What to wear in the birth pool??

Im planning hopefully to have a water birth if all goes well.

I dont want to go in naked..
And none of my bikinis currently fit! Dont really want to go buying one in a bigger size as ill never wear it again.

I was thinking of a thin short nightie to wear in the water...? And a spare incase i have to get out if it doesnt to go plan to change into if i end up back on the bed..


Has anyone else worn like a big tshirt/nightie on the water?? xx

I didn't feel a nightie or tshirt would be right for me. That kind of fabric would go so heavy imo. I'd hate the thought of all that heavy material, part clinging and part floating about, I think it would do my head in, but each to their own. I guess you could try one on in the bath? I got a gorgeous vest top from h&m, it's shiny, stretchy fabric, a bit thinner than swimsuit fabric and it's a good length. I love the colour too, it's pale aqua green.

Ive got this thin beach dress thats really short and its vest top type strappy straps.. might go with that as like u said a top with big sleeves is just guna weight me down lol!

I've got a maternity swimming top , but in new look the do crop tops for a few pound I thought they looked good

I hardly get naked infront of OH now so i no no matter what pain i wont end up in the nude lol.

They need to have access to you in the pool as they'll check you in the water so anything too long won't be practical.

What about a little swim skirt?

Nothings ever long on me. Im 6ft very very long body aswell as legs do most things hardly reach the bottom of my bum anyway lol.

I was exactly the same but when the time comes you really won't care. I had a tankini, nightie, long vest tops and everything packed but in the end have birth in my bra and socks...classy! And wouldn't have cared of I was in Trafalgar Square. And yet now I won't even breast feed in most places I think you turn into a different person when in labour!x

Oh I'm exactly the same!! I was just planing on wearing a bra and a long stretchy vest top that I have from new look. I'm tall too and have a long torso haha so its the perfect length. Might look into those swim skirts too though I've not seen them before I would love to be able to cover my arse lol xx

I got a cheap bikini top from Asda and a wee swim skirt from amazon - both stayed in the bag - I was sooo desperate to get in the water that no way I was wasting time getting changed!!!!

I'd love a water birth this time round, so il just strip off, probs keep a little vest top on for a while but when she's ready to come out I want skin to skin n don't want to be rushing to take my top off, so il make sure it's off in plenty of time.

Dani I'd say a thin long vest top would be good for u, those longline ones are long enough for you to feel comfortable without weighing u down like a shirt or nightie would x

Ive got 2 at home here i had from holiday last year, very thin and baggy and quite see through aswell its that thin lol,

My step sister had a huge nightie on and managed to get her lil boy up and on her chest. I think ill take these both with me and my sports bra as its not wired to swear which ill probs end up taking off.

I was very insecure and scared if anyone would see me naked (not saying you are) but when you are in labour there is really no point to this. I didn'tcare at all if someone would see me naked (only bad for their eyes to see me, not so much for me). I went in the birth pool naked, much more convenient and also easy to get dry when you get out. You don't stand up and sit down loads of times so no one would be looking at your bottom (and if someone did you will not notice).
