I am now 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant and I am already finding that a lot of my jeans and trousers feel uncomfortably tight, especially when I sit down.

Clearly I don't have a bump yet so maternity clothes seem a bit excessive. Should I go and buy some clothes a size or two bigger just to keep me going? What do you ladies do?

I've put a hair tie on the loop of my jeans to my button to give me just a little bit more space :)

Congratulations by the way!! :) I think I'm only a couple of days ahead of you

Most of my clothes started to feel really uncomfortable around 5 weeks so I used the hairband trick on jeans and trousers and wore long tops. Im not a fan of leggings but I have found myself having to wear them more often out of comfort. I had to hold back on buying maternity stuff! I am 12 weeks now so currently looking into maternity clothes.

I am looking forward to the autumn/winter more because I will be wearing more tights and dresses which I find more comfortable anyway.x

If I'm honest I was in maternity type trousers from about 10 weeks, maybe before! I couldn't bear to be wearing jeans or anything touching my tummy and the hairband trick etc just wasn't comfortable for me. And being short with no butt I couldn't really wear clothes a size or two bigger as they looked ridiculous. (Think baggy 90s style jeans!)

They were the ones that go over the bump so no digging in at the waist or tummy. No one knew apart from my OH unless I told them though! I wore them up until about 20 weeks when I went to a bigger size, and now I'm just in leggings because I'm huge. They were money well spent because they were about £25 or so from H&M and I wore them for a long while. I actually plan on wearing them again after birth when I still have bit of a belly for comfort.

However if you have a body shape that can be comfortable in clothes a size or two bigger until your bump is fully bumpy, then go for that. There's no wrong answer here and no one would think it's excessive if it's comfortable for you! :)

I'm 9 + 3 with my second and my trousers are starting to go from a little snug to uncomfortable, for a couple of pairs that are a more relaxed style which hopefully will see me through another couple of weeks.

I know its ridiculous but don't feel like I can get out my maternity stuff until I've had my scan and am 'officially' pregnant. Going on hols at 13 weeks and got a couple of maternity summer dresses as don't want to look just fat on my hols.

I think it partly the early pregnancy bloat too, I was very bloated at around 5-7 weeks but it's calmed down now. Hopefully the same will happen for you, all your body fluid heads south when pregnant so lots of water retention going on. Hope you feel a bit more comfortable again soon x

I got maternity clothes at around 10 weeks. Much better. If anything, it means I'll get more use out of my maternity stuff. I'm trying to buy as little as possible. So I wore a lot of dresses that were loose under the bust anyway, so they're still fitting at nearly 23 weeks and maternity leggings underneath.

Also, H&M leggings are like £7.99 and I'm in a size L and have been since about 30 weeks, they fit under my bump and I'm almost 38 weeks! They're not maternity leggings but definitely comfortable as they're on the hips and fit perfectly. I would be a size M usually.
AND they're not exceptionally see-through, an issue with leggings that meant before pregnancy I would never wear them!

Thank you so much! I'll be heading off to H&M.
Good luck with it all, 38 weeks, it's almost time, eek! That feels like a million years away for me, but I'm told it will go fast!!!

No worries!

God it feels like forever for me! So ready to hold my kiddo and done with all the pregnancymoanjng!
Good luck with the next few weeks :)
