Do you feel bad for smoking even if it isn't around LO I myself smoke and have done since the age of nine, and I am beginning to feel guilty, ( I didn't smoke during pregnancy).
Hope this thread doesn't offend anyone :)

I don't smoke so can't answer. 9?? Gosh that's young!! Xx

I stopped for 14 months and started again a few months back... yes I feel sooooo guilty (don't smoke around LO) but am finding it impossible to stop. Told oh to get me knocked up again so i'll quit again lol

i dont smoke never have done im not one of those non smokers who gets on thier high horse and preaches to smokers either. My oh smokes but i would never ever allow hin nor would he want to smoke around the kids. I do think passive smoking is awful and hate to think of little kiddies who have no say in the matter breathing in all that crap. there little lungs are so new and pure i would hate to think i had any part in tainting them. I do think how ever if you are a smoker you dont have to feel guilty as long as you dont smoke around your children. xxxxxx

Can I ask what made you start up again? I smoked from very young too, aged about 13. Since finding out I'm pregnant i've stopped completely, not had a single one since I found out when I was around 6 weeks gone. Well chuffed with myself as I didnt think I'd be able to do it. My OH quit at the same time as me though because we both thought it was only fair. But my OH has started back up again, albeit not around me but I can smell it on him and when I see him have one it makes me start craving them again!
Did you get cravings again after your LO was born, because I'm really worried about this happening, as I'm not sure if I'd be able to resist the temptation if I wasn't pregnant, even though I really don't want to. I'd have thought the cravings would have disappeared by now :(
xx

I smoked until i found out i was pregnant and haven't started again since! OH gave up just after LO was born, the amount of money saved is unbelievable x

I sometimes feel guilty, but I never smoke in front of lo! Always take my jumper off and wash my hands!
I will always wait till he had just gone to sleep so it won't be a while before I pick him up again!
XxX

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant, wasn't a problem, but I missed it everyday, it's the way I cope with stress. The first time I didn't think about it was straight after Oz was born, but then the cravings started again and eventually I just gave in and started again. Not a big smoker though and i do try and make sure to have one when I know I won't have to have direct contact for at least 30 mins.

I started again because of the stress of my labour I think xx

Yes I feel guilty :( I don't smoke in the house or near Emily ever. I'm more concerned because of my family's history of cancer and heart disease. I worry more now because I have Emily and I want to live as long as possible for her. But at the same time I know in my heart I'm not ready to stop. I know enough about addiction to know that you HAVE to really want to stop. Its very difficult, especially after overcoming other addictive behaviours. Smoking is the last thing I need to give up. I also believe when you overcome an addiction you usually need to replace it with something else.......I need to find something healthy to replace it with.

I replaced them with food. Raarrr. I know what Id be so much lighter if I smoked which makes me want to start again but I know Id never stop so just battle my food demons.

Smoking is sooooo good though  If Ive have a few to drink Ill have a sneaky one or two. Oooooo yeah.

I'm pretty much t-total, haven't been drunk for over 1.5 years lol, but I agree drinking + smoking = gooooooood lol

I'm trying to cut back to 3 a day, I was 1 a day and it crept up to 5 a day, today I'm trying to pull it back again... good luck to me!!!

I feel guilty but I always go outside to smoke, wear a jumper I can take off before I come back in and wash my hands them use the anti bac stuff, brush my teeth and use mouthwash! And i only smoke when Aiden has a nap or if I have to do something else while he's with my mom, as long as I'm not pickin him up for a while. And I still feel guilty!!! It's just one of those things. I only have about 5 a day probably not even that but I couldn't live without them now, I don't know how I coped!

I used to smoke but stopped... hmmm... can't even remember when- that's how much of a non event was for me! I am not pregnant and we only started trying 3 months ago, so that had nothing to do with it. I did not use any patches etc or replace with food or sweets etc. My OH who had been smoking for something like 20 years, stopped too.

We used Easy Way by Alan Carr (don't know if I can put that on here!) We both found it really great. I listened to it as an audio book but I think you can just buy the book too. It was really great and explains everything so well and so clearly. I found it got me to think about smoking and quitting in a whole different way- not the whole, smoking gives you cancer and is killing you way- show me one smoker who is not fully aware of that fact but still lights up every single day! . After listening to it, I had my last ever cigarette straight after and have not had or wanted one since! My best friend still smokes and I have no trouble being around her after I quit.

I hate preachy ex smokers, so apologies if it comes across that way! I do not judge anyone for smoking, it is simply and addiction but one which you can break without any major stress or trauma to yourself.

If any of you want to quit, I would totally recommend this above ANYTHING else. I think it's AMAZING and it totally worked for me and my OH.

xx

I quit cold turkey, after 7 years, within a few days of my BFP and have never started again.

The few rare times i've been out and had a tipple I get really bad cravings and have even had a puff or two but it's like chomping on a piece of coal! Yuck!! So weird!

A friend of mine smokes and (no offence to any smoking mums) how she can even hold her daughter after she's just put a cig out disgusts me! Her daughter will still be able to inhale the dangerous fumes.

They say ex smokers are worse then non smokers - it's true, i'm horrendous when it comes to smoke around my child.

Im a smoker - but not when im pregnant. I always give up as soon a s i know and want to try and not smoke again this time. I dont want my baby smelling a smokey mummy. I dont want any of the kids smelling me or seeing me smoking.

i quit when i got my BFP and wont start again.
a few weeks ago i was at the local asda and when i was getting in my car there was a woman in front of me just belting her toddler into the car, she closed the door and i noticed her bump, must have been at least 7 months, and then she lit up a cig and smoked it before gettin in. all i was thinking is ok love your not smoking round one kid but your not giving the other the same consideration. im never gonna preach and my OH still smokes, i dont care im just not starting again. its been a couple of months and i wanna steal everyones fags and smoke them but i know i cant and wont, i plan to bf so wont be able to even after lo is born.

My husband quitted smoking after the birth of our baby. He followed a medication which worked well.
I recommend visiting a doctor to help you quit smoking.
