 im going on thursday to take the two youngest for their injections. ill make an appointment then i promise :D

Not trying to scare anyone but although I hate having it done Ido go every 3 years.

When I was 25 a neighbour of ours died of cervical cancer aged 33 leaving a boy 8 and girl 5 (I didn't know her very well BUT the image of her in a wheelchair in the last weeks of her life stuck with me.)

It obviously has been since then the shove up the bum to go

hello ladies, I am due one but have to wait until Sammy is out.

I have to have them yearly now, used to be 6 months.

I just want to stress the importance of them to you...

I'm now 28 and have been having clear smears for the last 2 years.

however, i always used to go along..reluctantly may I add and when I was 24 abnormal cells were picked up which on my next visit had escalated.

At 25 I had 2 biopsies named colcoscopies which found that I had pre cancerous cells.

I had these removed with laser treatment within the following week and was told that had I have left them undetected, I could have had cervical cancer by the time I was 30.

not trying to say this to scare any of you, the odds are low but just to say that the few minutes of discomfort are well worth it.

By the time I got to the laser removal, I will not lie, it was excrutiation , but God I'm glad I did it.

So Budge, I'll be joining you after just have to put it on hold until Sammy is here

I just want to add my two pence worth too!! I was exactly the same, I've had to have treatment & if I hadn't I would have cancer now

Smears aren't that pleasent, no one likes getting their lady gardens out but how would you feel if you didn't then found out you had cervical cancer?
Its a minute or two of slight discomfort (if you had a baby then its a walk in the park!!) it can feel like a slight crampy feeling & thats it. It does depend on who does it, i've had doctors do it & nearly flew through the roof but had others where I could hardly feel it. Believe me its worth doing that than having biopsies & treatment (that hurts!!!!)

I had one done about 2 weeks ago & waiting for the results.

I am the same as kirlykird and nikki. I had a smear test that showed up abnormal cells and so had to have colposcopy treatment. I now have my smear tests routinely every 6 months. The last one I had was after I had Jacob and was uncomfortable, I had to cough for the first time too :? Please girlies make your appointment as soon as possible!

Xxx

good idea. my hubbys off next week so ill go for mine too.
makes my tummy turn to think of it though but ill go. :?

im 19. ive never had one. i always assumed they would send for me. they never have. i almost made an appointment a year or so ago. as i thought i should have one. but never did.

cant have one now till after baby, which will be next year now if you wait 6months after labour.

good luck ladies. i cant stand the thought of it, but as correctly pointed out, it could save your life

If I remember rightly you only need wait a few weeks after labour to have one, I didn't know and went a bit early but they still did mine for me. Could be something like 8/12 weeks to wait but don't quote me on it :?

Dont worry Keslo, after having a baby, a smear test is a walk in the park, honest :D

I'm due one as well so will be phoning my doctors today to make the appointment. I have to have one done every year as a few years ago they found abnormal cells and I had to have a biopsy done which thankfully was clear. Since then have never missed one

Same here, and glad the abnormal cells were removed sooner than later, had to have a smear a year for 4 years after that and would never miss one, it is not worth risking.

My midwife told me to wait 12 weeks to have a smear afer having a baby. Apparently if you have one any earlier 'abnormal' cells can be picked up as there are still pregnancy cells hanging around!
Anyway am having mine tomorrow (16 weeks after labour) and not looking forward to it, but will be glad when it's out of the way.
