the smear thread #2

I had mine at the end of feb, can't remember if i posted or not

Anyway it wasn't that bad was in an out with in 15 mins :D

well folks a year and half after starting this thread i had a smear test!! i had it done yesterday and it was absolutely pain free. i couldn't beleive it!
its will be 11 years this november since i had my last one and this one was well overdue...

if you are due for one girls go - honestly its nothing and it could save your life. :)

you have reminded me! i got my letter through the other day! i really should go and have mine done.

am i ok to have one done after a miscarrage? i was told to wait 6 months after having alice (i never booked that one in either  ).

my area doesnt do them untill your 25 but my mum had pre cancerous cells, so i had a smear a couple of years ago. my mum has to have smears every 6 months i think.

I had mine in August  It was all clear :cheer: And it didnt hurt which is was what I was dreading 8 weeks after giving birth

I still need to go

I was going to make a new thread asking who needs to go and we should all promise to do it.

i had one when i had my 6 week
check got the results and it was normal

They won't give you one here unless you're 25. My midwife went and checked for me because she was miffed that I hadn't had one after having Aaron but they said not til 25.

I started having smear tests when I was 22 and the first one I ever had showed up abnormal. Because I was so young they did another one after six months and that showed abnormal as well. I was sent off to have coloscopy (sp) and I was found to have pre-cancerous cells which were removed using loop incision.

It just goes to show that it can happen at a young age and I was told that my chances of having cervical cancer within 10years if I had not had those cells removed would have been very high.

After five years of having smears every six months (for the first two years) then annually after that I got the all clear.

I don't want to scare anyone but just want to stress how important it is to go and catch anything that could happen early. So please please go, it really it worth it it the long run.

I'm really shocked that in some areas you don't have one till your mid-20's  is there a reason for that? From my understanding you should start having them when you become sexually active. Anyway, I think I had my first when I was 20 and I'll be booking in for another one this year.

About 9 years ago when I went for my routine smear.. They found cancerous cells... I had to go to the hospital for treatment where they burnt the cells away with a big cattle prod type of thing... the doctor at the hospital said that I had went for my smear just in time before the cancerous cells went into the next stage!!! I was told that I was in stage 3....stage 4 was cancer  After my treatment I had to have a smear every year for 5 years because I was high-risk. My nan died of cancer and my mum has had cancer.

I strongly recommend you all go for your smears...it truely could SAVE YOUR LIFE!

I had one about a month ago.

Please go for one, those of you who haven't. I had one when I was 21 to be told I had pre-cancerous cells. I have to have a colpolscopy then loop excision, then A cone biopsy. I was told I was 2yrs away from having cancer. Ihave to have then every year now.

Ladies it's so important. For the sake of a minute of being a bit uncomfy you could save yourself getting cancer or you kids losing their mothers.

Sounds very similar to what I had!

i've just seen this!
i had my first smear on tuesday the same day i injured my foot-
the pain i had in my foot was really bad so i was concentrating more on that...but even so the smear was over in seconds and was really not bad at all..only slightly uncomfortable when they use the little brush on your cervix but it takes literally a few seconds- its not even as uncomfortable as any internals/sweeps you have when you are preggers.

im gonna have one done now..what does it check for?? just cancer?

I'm a good girl, had my first at 15 ( ) and every 3 years since :)

just wondering im 21 do you have to make an appointment i was under the impression that they sent you a letter for when you need one (i havent got any kiddies)

Im upto date with mine at the moment, due for my second one in january next year, had my first after i had my first baby :D

I had one about 6 weeks ago.
It was horrific - she couldn't find my cervix and cherfully informed me she would have to use a bigger speculum  then she said my cervix was tilting away from her. She was poking about for ages.
It wasn't very nice but i'd still rather have it done than end up with cancer!!

Get your appointments made ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
