When did you all take the sides off your cot to turn it into a bed?

B went into his big boy bed at about 18/19 months. It was the right time for us but every child's different x

We've not done it yet. LO just turned 2. He's happy in his cot so I'm leaving it for now. He's not able to climb out yet but if I think he's getting close we'll take the sides off. I think most people do it between 18 months and 3, depending on the child. That said a couple of my friends moved their LOs when they were about 14 months! Xx

Harry went into his big bed last month at 17 month's he took to it fab n glad I did it but everyone is different hun.

We took them off at 11 months. She used to scream blue murder if we tried to put her in her cot. I spent hours sat with her crying and I used to end up popping her in bed with me and she instantly fell asleep. So we took the side off and the first night she fell asleep after 10 mins. She is now 2 and a fab sleeper! X

Our daughter was 2.5 years old and it turned out to be just the right time for her. No problems. Our son is 20 months and I'm just starting to think about doing it as he's looking like he might want to climb out soon!

My daughter still has the sides on and shes 2.5. I will only do it when she can climb out xxx

We did it last week at just after his 2nd birthday - first night was great, it was a novelty to him and he went straight in and slept all night then he slowly regressed and learnt to get out, we are just starting to get him back into it with force haha

Xx

Hi hun! We never put up the cot bars. I use some cushions to stop him rolling out in his sleep and he loves to sleep there. The nice thing is that he can come to us in the night if he needs to or sometimes just sleeps through! Hope this helps!
Does anyone know approximately when kids start to develop a feeling of borders in their bed and won't roll out in their sleep? Xxx

We did ours lastnight!!!! Not because he was trying to climb, he never has.
Noah turned 2 on the 11th July..
Last night he must of got out atleast 20 tines before nodding off lol, but he stayed asleep until 6am (normal wakeup time).
Todays lunchtime nap he was up playing in his room while i was folding clothes and he actually put hinself to bed and fell asleep.

Tonight again was a few times before falling asleep.
I bought small wooden side rails to go either sode of his bed, £10 in ikea. Alot better and small than those mesh type ones! x

Jake will be 2 next week and he still has his cot sides on...miraculously he hasn't tried climbing out yet, which given he's so tall (he's on 99th centile for height) would be easy for him xxx

Emily was 17 months when she went into a toddler bed. Wanted her to be well used to it before the new baby came. X

20 months old for me. Got out x3 1st night, x2 second night and X1 third night !! Now goes in and sleeps with no problems. We went on holiday and put him in two single beds together in a caravan so was used to more space and being able to get out and thought why not carry it on at home and he took to it really well !!xx

We took the bars off as soon as Beth could walk confidently at 17 months. I liked the idea that she could get out of bed in the morning and play for a while so I could sleep longer
Backfired when she started being able to reach door handles... ;)

I took the side off the cotbed just after Ds 2nd birthday. He turns 3 tomorrow and still won't get out of bed until I go in to him in the morning, although he's happy enough to jump in and out of it during the day when he's playing.

He told me the other day he loves his bed (as he tried hugging it while lying on it) which is kinda gutting as I'm gonna be changing it for a proper single in a few weeks. I just hope he settles into the new one easily.
