it's now in the highway code that you can be fined for smoking whilst driving. Eating and drinking, loud music and reading a map are also included.

Smoking ban in public places, im all for that. Stopping me from smoking in my car? Forget it!

Ive been smoking while driving for years, I only spark up at traffic lights etc when im not moving, and can easily have both hands on the wheel while holding a cigeratte.

I know its not banned, just fined if you crash while smoking, but its the next step im sure of it!

I never smoked while driving anyway

My mate put her fag out the window and it came back in the back window, we could smell burning and she nearly crashed  Very scary hence the reason why I never smoked while driving!

when i smoked i used to drive and smoke.
i dont agree with it cos if i dropped it it was a mad panic trying to find it and i was not concentrating on the road.
i was exceptionaly clumsy though.

Talking, changing gears and switching on the wipers are just as distracting. I understand where they're coming from, but when is it going to stop? Will we be banned from having children in the car because they're distracting? What happened to letting us use our common-sense.

I think having burning embers on your skin is a bit more distracting than turning you wipers on.

I dont have a problem with smokers as its their own health choice but when it effects people who choose not to smoke I do have a problem.

Thank goodness its a rare occurance.

I always used to smoke and drive. Even now I've been stopped for a long time, if it's sunny and my window is down, I wanna jack the music up and have a smoke. It's the only time I miss it!
I have crashed while smoking though (I fell asleeep) and the burn on my leg was the most painful thing about it.

I dont agree with smoking whilst driving, or anything that causes a distarction ie eating, drinking(not alchol) speaking on phones etc. Its not only for your own safety but the safety of other drivers.

i almost crashed the car once when a wasp flew in and landed on the wheel and i paniked because im allergic to them and didnt know what to do, thats what id imagince someone would do if the dropped a cigarette or hotfood/drinks etc.

People fiddling around with their radios and CDs probably pay less attention to the road than if you're eating!

Why does the goverment continue to treat adults like children and take away the simple things in life?
Im not a smoker but this is rediculous!

i dont smoke but in the past i hav been drinking a can of coke, changing a cd AND talking on my fone all at the same time
but i also used 2 drive VERY naughtily but i dont now im a mummy

my mum usually smokes in the car but they just bought a new car and my stepdad said shes not allowed to until the cars a bit older and not so new

I dont think people should be allowed to drive with their dogs jumping all over the car, that does my head in :shakehead:

I saw this car with kids in the back (before the recent child seat laws) not only were the kids not strapped in, one of them was doing a (very squashed up) hand-stand on the back seat with her feet on the back window

Eating- obivously not having massive meal or stuff, but should be allowed what if you have diabetes you need to eat sometimes...

Drinking, water should be allowed.

Smoking- Maybe not as it can be hazordous...

x

i think if they ever ban smoking whilst driving, road rage will increase 5000%

good and show it should be. everything is a distraction even talking to teh driver if they cant do both concentrate on the road aswelll as talking to people in the car.

i think drivers should be charged loads and im glad they get points on their licence now for stuff too
