Is it totally against the law to smack your children?

I heard it had been banned but wasn't listening properly. Maybe it ment at school and things? I see kids getting smacked when I'm out shopping so surely it's not illegal???

It isn't illegal. The government have just stepped down from announcing that it was to become illegal because of pressure from parents.
