Reusable Wipes Solution (MrsH!)

am thinking that terry is cheaper than fleece?

Just get some of them click lid Tupperware tubs but get two different sizes so you know which is your dirty and your clean on! You will also need 2 waterproof wash bags in different colours if you are planning to use them out! Again just a clean and a dirty one but food bags would work!

For our clean solution I use a camomile tea bag, just sainsbury's own. Which I brew and let go cold, then I add a couple of drops of lavendar oil (I got 100mls off eBay for about 5 pound). Then in my dirty tub I just put water and tea tea oil you don't have to put anything in the dirty one I just think it smells a little if you don't

fleece blanket will work fine

i second everything!!!! ive tried the cheeky wipes but this way works just fine and is much cheaper... except if you buy reaaallly nice wash bags

The wee notion wet bags would work too

thats what i used LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You only need to hem the edges if it's terry rowesb, you would have to turn the edge over and run a seam around it, but I really struggle to sew terry. When I did jack an insert for a nappy I ended up using a binding round the edge cos the machine kept eating the terry! Just use fleece it will save hours

Not really get on eBay you will get a printed fleece about 100cm by 150cm for about 5 and that will give you enough wipes till bub reaches 18

Weenotions is bloody awesome; can't believe I havent seen it - Terrie what other sites do you know about?!

lol i cant remember all the sites ive ordered from  but weenotions and babykind were my fav

have just been onto the weenotions site, they are ace!!
I must not buy I must not buy I must not buy I must not buy I must not buy I must not buy.....

I am most definitely going to top up my cheeky wipe supply with either some weenotions fleece wipes or buy some fleece like MrsH said and make my own.
Having a baby has turned into some amazing hobby - a bit like model aircraft - I gotta have some of everything!

:cheer:

My word this thread is great!!! Anyone got an Ikea near them? They do the fleece blankets for all the cheapness, would those suit? I had looked at fleece baby blankets which cost a small fortune when you add it up. My mum ended up getting the ikea blankets and got 4 out of them for like £2 or something, and no edging needed. I love being thrifty, although my OH would call it something else ;)

Yes it would work fine, cos they aren't too thick

That's the type of fleece I'm going to be using - the Ikea ones :)

Terrie! I just sent Emily to get me some CRINKLY SCISSORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lovin it!!!!!!! CRINKLY allllllll the way!!!!!

OK, so for the wipes solution does it have to be any particular kind of oil? Obviously tea tree has some healing properties? What other oils would be good and still smell scrummy?

Definitely Lavender - Im using Tea Tree and Lav at the moment but I might look into a blend with Mandarin and Ylang Ylang or Chamomile. Geranium is beautiful too but I think I would dilute it well. Im also thinking of mixing some water with some baby lotion too :)

So how do you know they are safe for bubs? I know it's literally just a drop or two but I've never really dabbled in oils before and I know they can be powerful!

I would suggest one drop only in water, shaken up. I think for newborns I would only use a drop of lavender, as Rosie is a little older now I would experiment a bit more. Ive been using oils for years so kind of know ifkwim! Would be worth looking it up though for reassurance :)

Ah that makes sense, definately sounded like you knew what you were talking about! :) Thanks for the link, will have a good look!

Well an update from me....

WHY OH WHY didnt I do this sooner!?!! These wipes are GENIUS! They clean up Hebe's nuclear poos with one wipe alone! I used to use 6 on her poos minimum!

They are a MUST when using cloth nappies.

With disposables when you clean LOs bum you put the used wipes in the dirty nappy and then that goes in the bin....but with cloth you have to fish out the dirty wipes from the poopy nappy to bin or flush away (not advisable) before you put it in the pail.....

With a reusable wipe you put that in the nappy and the whole lot goes in the pail then the wipes are washed in your nappy load! Easy peasy!

My solution is camomile tea, lavender and geranium and I put the dirty ones that dont go straight in the pail ie Hebe's as she's in dispoables, in water and tea tree oil solution.

My kit was:

2 x clip top containers from Ikea - £4.99 each but there are much cheaper available I just liked these as they look nice on my change table shelp
1 x fleece throw - £1.69 Ikea - I've only used about a quarter of the material! I can do more if they get tatty I suppose.
Camomile tea bags - £1.50 for 2 boxes of Twinings! My hubby thought I asked him to get them for me to drink so he got decent stuff but own brand would be fine.
Essential Oils I already had from labour (lavender) and using cloth nappies (tea tree for in my pails and geranium for in the washing machine with the Soap Nuts I use instead of washing detergents).

Cheap as chips when you consider that Huggies Pure are £2.49 when they arent on offer in the supermarket!

Oooh not thought of this, great idea, is it the environmetal issue, the harshness of wipes on babys bum or the octs of packets of wipes that makes you guys choose these. I guess you could cut up squares from old bath towels too?
