Evening ladies' tiny us due in just over a week and bf is the way we are heading. I've done plenty of reading up on here and expect it to be hard work.

I think I read somewhere about starting to moisturise nipples prior to tiny making an appearance?

Any other pearls of wisdom you can share would be great.

Thanks

Hey Hun, how exciting! I would say the following things
1. Don't expect bfing will automatically come naturally and easily. Took me weeks of heartache over matching issues etc. don't beat yourself up about it though. Just persevere and use the support around you. Check out your local bfing support group.
2. Nipple cream is a godsend
3. Baby will feed none stop in the first week or so to establish your supply. This is normal. Put your pyjamas on, find good tv and prepare to bf all day.
4. Bfing is hard work and tiring. Bf babies tend to be more demanding tan formula fed
5. Enjoy it.nuts amazing bonding with your baby this way. However if it doesn't work for you don't beat yourself up about it.
6. There are some bfing experts here so pop on with any questions.

Good luck Hun xxxx

It can be excruciating to start with. With both my girls I had cracked and bleeding nipples but I was all sorted by day 10.

Perseverance is key x

Moisturising/toughening nipples before hand doesn't really achieve anything tbh.

Invest in some lanisoh cream - expensive but it lasts ages and really helps.

The first few weeks can be tricky, but if you can get passed that then the rewards out weigh the bad times 100 fold. Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Thanks :)
Know it's going to be tough hope I can battle through :)

Positive thinking, and knowledge of 'booby traps' and where to get help. If you've for that you'll be fine. X

Hi hun. I don't have a lot of advice to give, but I wanted to tell you my experience: I found it incredibly difficult at first. I didn't really know what to expect and it was a shock. LO latched fine but my milk supply took a very long time to come in. She lost a lot of weight in the first two weeks and we were forced to supplement with formula. I expressed round the clock to boost my supply and in the end, I finally established a good enough supply and could ditch the formula at 8 weeks old. It was horrendous but in my opinion it was the best thing I've done for LO. I love breastfeeding now and am still BFing at 9.5 months. You've got to be quite bloody-minded and persistent if you are having troubles in the early days. That said, I know people for whom establishing breastfeeding was a doddle, so you could be one of those ladies! Make sure you have contact details for your local breastfeeding support group, baby cafe or similar - they can be really helpful in the early stages. Hope you have a great birth and good luck with the feeding. We're always around here for advice and support if you need it when the time comes xxx
