Prams

I'm not an urbo fan as for me the basket is solid and too low to the ground and not hugely practical. Out of everything I've had I rate the bugaboo buffalo very highly and I also love the armadillo flip xt. I saw a picture of the cybex Priam the other day and liked the look of it although I've got no experience with it and the only Stokke I've not had is a trailz so I'd quite like to scratch that itch!! X

Urbo is an urban pram. Not for country walks but then does a lot better than the bugaboo bee3 and I candy raspberry ( which I have had )

My favourite off road pram was the baby jogger city select, so sturdy.

Favourite double is defiantly the oyster max

This is about 2/3s of my "stash" of woven wraps lol

I also have 1 RS, a wrap conversion Mei Tai, a purple Moby, and about 8 wovens that aren't in the picture yet (2 are with friends, the rest are in storage until spring when I can wash them ready for the baby).

Hope you don't mind me butting in... but is it better to have a carrycot/pram than a lie flat pushchair? I've found one I like but it doesn't come with carrycot but is suitable from newborn. I know you can buy cocoons as well, but are they universal? I'm really in two minds whether to buy second hand with a carry cot + new carseat, or buy new without carrycot + carseat. I'd love to have everything new but on a budget.

I think it's up to you.

If the pram is suitable from birth, personally I would not be bothered about a carrycot.
I think if you have a winter newborn they can be handy for keeping the baby warm, but if the baby is born in spring/summer they could get too hot in a carrycot, and by the time it's winter they'll be big enough for a "buggysnuggle" or foot muff.

That said, some carrycots can be used for baby to sleep in all the time so it can save you having to buy a moses basket or portable crib for the baby to sleep in (for naps or when it's newborn).

I'm not a fan of babies being in car seats a lot so I personally would go for a car seat that stays in the car, and also buying a group 0-1/2 is often cheaper than buying a group 0 (the type that attach to a push chair travel system) and then having to buy another seat that's group 1+

We are definitely going to have to chat! I plan on baby wearing as much as possible, but other than just seeing people do it I've no idea where to begin. My sister is buying me a sling, but I'd love to buy pretty wraps as well

Will definitely not be using a car seat after reading up on it! I'm amazed that so many people just keep their babies in them for long periods. xx

Thanks Phoenix for the suggestions. I'll have a look at the link.
MrsMcc I completely agree re it being an urban pushchair - unfortunately there are too many cobbles and uneven pavements where i live to make it practical. I hated the raspberry - it was so flimsy and I've had a few bug bees but I have to admit I've never got the attraction. Currently for quick out and abouts ive got the BabyJogger zip which is worth its weight in gold!!
Kittyktchn you can buy a newborn wedge (silvercross do a nice one that's universal) that can make any seat completely flat so I wouldn't worry about the expense of a carrycot if it doesn't suit you xx

I'm also going to buy a lay flat car seat this time - I like the besdafe Izi sleep and cybex have a new lay flat that has a fantastic safety review xx

We are buying an Emmaljunga pram. They are a bit more substantial than the ones you ladies have mentioned which is what we are after. It's a more practical (and significantly cheaper) option to the traditional Silver Cross of my dreams.

They are Swedish made and built to order. you select the chassis, carry cot and pram then can add accessories to suit.

As for a car seat, I have major issues with them being used for long periods of time also, but the lady in the pram shop showed us a new Kiddy one that also has a lie flat function, although we are swaying more towards the cybex as it feels more substantial.

I'm 5ft 8, hubby is 6 ft 2 so some of the smaller things look rediculous when we have them.

Sorry to hijack the thread again with talk of slings  but I just wanted to say that most areas have sling libraries now which are great for seeing them up close and trying them out, then you can either hire from the library or buy one elsewhere based on what you like from trying them out :)

If you google it it should bring something up :) x

For my first I just brought the mini city at the time I had no interest in prams. Me and husband were skint. I drove a tiny car at the time and lived in a 1 bed flat so we had no space for a carry cot and hate being surrounded by too much stuff! You could buy a carrycot for it but it's essentially just a buggy you can use from birth. It was between that or a maclaren but that didn't allow a car seat to be attached. I brought clips to attach the car seat on to the pram but I barely used them I found it so much easier to just unlock my son out of car seat and place him in the pram. Faffing around un clipping car seat from the base and then trying to clip onto the pram unsettled him more than just lifting him out! I had a summer baby so never missed not having a carry cot at all now like others have said I'm thinking one of the reasons I may need one now is I'm in a house so could use like a Moses basket.
Xx

Sorry to cut in ladies but I would DEFINITELY buy a car seat brand new, you don't know if the previous owners have been in a car accident and could have affected stability of car seat. Secondly I wouldn't get a lie flat car seat as I don't feel they're as safe as the reclining seats my OH is a trained car seat fitter and always talks me through the different seats and explains about iso fix points and certain things to look for.xx

We went to test out the mamas and papas armidillo flip xt yesterday and completely feel in love with it, it ticks absolutely all of our boxes and I think that is the one we are going to go for. We will be getting the carrycot though because the cybex lie flat car seat just seems too cramped for baby to be in for long periods xx

Can I ask why you have an issue with the lie flat car seats? (Not being awkward, just wondering!) They can't be reclined while baby is in the car, only when they are removed from car, and/or clipped to the pram base.

I think it's preference with me tbh, having seen them and sat one in our cars I just didn't feel as tho they would be as safe as the car seats. But then again I'm not keen on loses baskets but some people love them. I think it's just choice xx

I'm not a fan of seeing babies in car seats out with the car to be honest, but can see the benefits of having the short term benefits (e.g a quick nip into Tesco)

I wouldn't ever have baby in a car seat for any period of time unless they are physicaLly in the car

I've never been a fan either and thought I wouldn't do it but my lo has never really taken to his carrycot and won't stay in it for long periods eg more than 30 mins (if you're lucky!) unless he goes to sleep and then he wants to get out as soon as he wakes up lol. The problem is that he can't see enough in it so I use the car seat on the pram base as otherwise I wouldn't be able to go shopping etc. I do make sure he comes out of it for at least an hour every couple of hours though. I've tried baby wearing and lo won't tolerate it because he's too restricted. Can't wait until he's 6 months and can go in his pushchair! x

The first thing I look at when buying a car seat are the safety reviews and some of the newer lie flat car seats such as the cybex have exceptional safety test reviews. Like others I wouldn't use a car seat instead of a carrycot or suitable from newborn pram seat and it comes down to personal opinion what you but but personally for me if the particular lie flat car seat is rated highly of higher than a traditional car seat then that'll be the one I choose. Again though this is just personal opinion. I don't know anyone who in practice despite best intentions removes their sleeping babies from the car seat when they arrive at their destination if they know it's just a short nap xx

Unicorn, we went too look today as the egg doesn't fit in my car with the carrycot and everything, and we fell in love with this as well. We have good taste hahaha xxx

It's fab isn't it and folds down soo small!

However, I'm now getting concerned that we are falling into the comercial trap of spending money unnecessarily! Does anyone know a cheaper option that is still sturdy, folds down small, is maneuverable, easy to collapse, good wheels for county walking etc or can just reassure me that we simply won't get anything anywhere near as good without paying as much? xx

Me and OH really like the silver cross surf .... Ohhh so exciting xx
