Please Read - OBSTETRIC CHOLESTASIS

Well ..... the first set of test came back ok :cheer:

But..... they re-did the tests at my 32 week apointment just to be on the safe side (still got mild itching) and now i've got a letter to go back for further tests! :wall: (oh and it took 10 day's for the results to come back!!!!)

I'm suposed to go on monday but i'm going to try and get it changed to tommorow (friday) I dont want to have to wait (especialy if they are going to take so long for the results to come back) and my OH comes back from afganistan on monday and i dont want anything to spoil the day.

no harm in trying to get them to move the dates of the tests.

fingers crossed they all come back ok

dont know if anyone still about who can advise me ?

ive been getting a lil itchy but last night was really bad on the soles of my feet and my back of hands/ fingers .

im now totally paranoid about this  i dont see mw for another 3 weeks ish , should i give it a couple of nights , see if it was random ithcing ? or make a doc appointment ?

this morning me feet feel all tingly !

Can you ring midwife or hospital for a quick chat?

Often your skin does get itchy and you get too hot as you now have a boiler in your tummy but at least if you can chat to MW or hossie it might put your mind at rest?

i might give hossy a ring maybe if its same tonight ! dont wanna be the erractive first time mum and all that but still its at the back of ya mind aint it

i just been outside ( my work have picked my van up) in a t-shirt lmao my boss was freezing :rotfl:

Have a bath with some baby oil or something in meantime to try and moisturise your skin and see if that helps

I am normally always freezing and OH can't believe I keep switching the heating down this year and telling him to put a jumper on :rotfl:

how early on in pregnancy can u get this? my sis is 16 weeks n sounds liek she has some of these symtoms...

sorry, just seen this.

I was diagnosed at around 28-29 weeks and was told that was early. My mw said it isn't normally detected until much later.

Tell her to keep an eye on it, and if she has concerns mention it to her HV. Put her mind at rest if nothing else.

Whilst im posting in here... How many mums who had this first time around ended up having it the next time?

ive just been told i will get hellp again but i dont know about OC , its closely linked cos of the liver elemant

hi i also had this with my first baby it was very worrying and i didnt get very much information about it, also the doctors didnt belive i had it they had to do about 5 blood test before it showd i had the liver desease and by then my lft was very high..my daughter had to be induced 2 and a half week early,, luckily we were both ok but i ended up hemoraging after having her which left me to pass out which was very scary, i found out it was coz my uterus would not contract back which is another problem wen u have this, if anyoe has any questions please ask as id like to be as helpful as possible..also if u have cholostasis in previous pregnancy it says ur likely to have it with ur second..but I have just had my second baby i had a baby boy on 11th nov hes 4 days old now :D and he came after 24hr labor weighing 8lb 14 :? i had no signs or symptoms of cholostasis this time woohoo

feel free to pm me too , i had this aswell as HELLP and had leland had 34 weeks

PLEASE CAN ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THIS PM ME!!

i had to go to the hospital today to see a specialist,he was on hols so i saw one of his "team" a foriegn lady who i did not feel was very good.
she has worried me as she said that there is no need for me to be induced and can go to term or when baby is ready to come.
i told her that the first lady i saw had told me i would be induced and after reading many things on the net about the condition that the risks become higher after 37-38 weeks of stillbirth.
i felt that she shunned what i was saying, she said that the specialist i am currently under returns to work in 2 weeks and it will be him who makes the decision.
i now feel im stressing again,if he agrees with her can i take this further as i am not happy at all and know i am going to drive myself crazy with worry. :( :wall:
can i demand to be induced early?? :?

really sorry i didn't reply to your PM earlier... Im unsure if you can 'demand' to be induced - the doctors will do what they see is best. But you can demand a 2nd opinion and go in prepared with research from the net showing that most people recommend early induction. Go down the route of those few weeks being nothing to stress and worrying due to the research you have done on this condition yourself. Ive been told stress is a major factor in the condition.

Last time and this time ive basically been told to take each week as it goes, but they as routine induce at 37 weeks. different hospitals different procedures though.

Hi all me again.. i had this with my first anyone with any questions please pm me ;) and dont be worried

i recon a list of people that are happy to help others out / be pm'd would be lovely on the first page  good idea?

If so, i will pm jo and see what she thinks :)

- are there any new hints on how to stop the itching floating around now days that have been discovered? Ive got the pot of good old aquasis cream in the fridge next to two damp flannels. Ive been told to pop into lush and speak to them - they apparently have some cream that is good for itching  anyone know what it is called?

i dunno i just kept as cold as possible and cos i was in hossy and had limited supplies i use to wrap ice cubes in a paper towel and wipe over everywhere that itches and use to lay it on my feet lmao i cant beleive this time last year i was in hossy !

hi everyone!
i was diagnosed a few weeks ago with obstetric cholestasis and have been worried to say the least, the condition can cause baby to be stillborn.
i am being closely monitored at the hospital to check babys heartbeat and to monitor my acid/liver levels.
when i was diagnosed with the disorder i was told it is usual to be induced at 37-38 weeks to reduce risks to baby.
i saw an understudy of my specialist a fortnight ago who unsettled me alot as she said that there was no reason not to carry baby to term or "whenever he is ready to come out"
i saw the specialist today who was aware of my concerns from this last visit and sat and explained to me and OH the risks of both being induced, and going to term (if i went that far as the conditon can bring on early labour)
the risks, me and OH have decided are alot less on being induced so this is what we have decided on.
the cons to being induced he said are that it may not work,if this was the case they would attempt again a few days later,if i or baby was to get distressed during the induction then they would give me a c section which he seemed very against (this is were he felt the risks lied)
i see him again in 2 weeks to give him my final decision,we had already made our minds up before we went in but he said to think about it and tell him in a fortnight,he will then give me a date for the induction if we decided to take this option.

SO! ................... in 3 weeks i am to be induced!

i feel so much more reassured by this as the condition has worried me alot. (to say the least)
my liver test results today have gone very very high which makes me want to be induced more then ever, initially they were at level 16,they went down last week to 2 and today have shot up to 20!
this explains the chronic itching i have had the last 2 nights which has stopped me getting any sleep and left me feeling very weepy as im so tired (and i'm also covered in scratches like i've been fighting a wild animal!)

he said that if i was not induced and went to term, and labour did not start on its own they would induce me at 40 weeks anyway as they would not let me go over term,as the risks get higher to baby even more.
so to us being induced 2 weeks earlier will make no difference except i will feel alot less stressed, its 2 weeks less to put up with this chronic itching but most importantly baby will be born earlier cutting the risks to him.

lol so im afraid it looks like im going to be another queue jumper!!
