So I nearly fell off my chair when the midwife said I will now be offered a sweep at 38 weeks! Apparently it's a new thing they do... Anyone else been told this?

I was 12 days over with my son and they made me wait FOREVER until they would intervene. Now at my next appt I can apparently have a sweep! I said I'm very unlikely to take them up on the offer as they've spent the last 9 weeks telling me how small the baby is!

Suddenly feels very real though and like it could happen at any minute! x

My MW told me that with a second pregnancy, they wouldn't offer a sweep until 41 weeks. She said that it can make the whole process longer if they start interfering too soon and as your body has done it before, they like to just leave well enough alone.

Are they offering you an early sweep because they are worried that bubs is small and want to make sure you don't go over too much?

This is my third baby - that's what they told me about my second baby. Absolutely no idea why I've been offered it this time. Zero concern with the baby; growth has been consistent, just a bit smaller than the others (on 10th centile, other two were 41 and 25 centiles). She said it's new research that the earlier they start offering the more likely labour happens spontaneously without medical/drug intervention.

I wonder if it's different because it's a third baby then?

It's funny how it's so different depending on where you're being cared for.

I was kind of hoping I'd get a sweep early as I just want her here safe and sound now, but I'll have to wait until I'm at least a week over it seems!

I was told 40 weeks for second baby. 41 for first. I was given a sweep at 40 weeks with my son but that was 15 years ago xx

Here it is 40+5 for a first baby and 42 for second and subsequent babies! Funny how different it is everywhere.

I felt quite disappointed when my MW said I wouldn't get a sweep until 41 weeks.

Not sure why I was disappointed that someone wasn't going to stick their hand up my foof and jiggle my cervix but I was,! Lol!!

There's such a huge variation on when they'll do them!

It is strange how it varies. Emily, I would have felt the same. I was happy when she said 40 weeks but looks like I might be induced anyway xx

For first baby here its something like 41+2 lol but i had them at 37/38 weeks because of induction booked. Ah how come the induction lisey? Xx

She said because it's an IVF baby, it's considered a precious pregnancy. It's not 100% but I hope they do now as so uncomfortable. I hope she comes before then even xx

Oh that's great they will though!
They were more cautious about Imogen too because of treatment and history etc xxx
