****** October 2018 Mummies! ******

Hi all, can I tentatively come in and say hi?

I'm 5+4 with my first baby, due 4th October by NHS calculator's reckoning. Not seen my GP. I've contacted my local maternity services today to book my first appointment, so waiting to hear back from them.

It feels so early! I'm still a but reluctant to talk about it much in case anything goes wrong - we haven't told family yet, my OH would like to talk to everyone next week, but I'm starting to chicken out and want to wait till I've had a scan and it's confirmed this is actually real! Feels weird cos I normally tell my mum everything...

Along a similar line - I'm a nurse and I work with people with brain injuries who have the very real potential to hit out/ harm me in some way, and we do occasionally have to physically manage behaviours - do you think I should tell work sooner rather than later, considering this risk?! I kind of just want to stay in this bubble until 12+ weeks, but maybe that's too risky...??

Thanks for any advice, and hi to the other October mummies :-)

Hi and welcome RosiePosie90! :)

In your situation I’d definitely tell work sooner. I told my manager at 4 weeks just in case I needed to step away from my desk (I man the emergency line).
Also if you tell your mum everything then I’d also tell her. I feel like we should tell whoever we’d want support from if something went wrong. To me that was my sisters and my husband told his best mate because men need someone to talk to as well! :)

How are you feeling?

Welcome Rosie and congrats!
What does the 5 +4 mean?

Hi CornishGirl, and thanks for getting back to me!

I had been pretty crampy but that seems to have stopped now, so I only really have super sore boobs, other than that I'm feeling a bit symptom-less. I think that's making me worry more - I'd rather feel a bit poorly and at least feel reassured I'm definitely still preggo. I didn't realise quite how nerve-wracking and slow this first part would be...!

I think you're right about work, although my manager isn't always the most supportive/ easy to approach... Other joys of being a nurse - I go onto nights tonight - not looking forward to it one bit!

How exciting to be on number 3 - how are you feeling?

Hehe, sorry, I'd seen that on a different forum and assumed that was generally how it was put (first pregnancy and a newbie to forums, still a bit clueless!) - 5+4 would be 5 weeks and 4 days

I get it now! I will be 6 weeks tomorrow

How are you feeling symptoms wise?

Yay, so exciting to be in the next week, I'm so desperate to jump a few weeks ahead and just feel a bit safer ha.

I wish I was feeling more symptoms?! Just the sore boobs really, I was exhausted yesterday, but today when I need to be sleeping to prepare for my night shifts, I'm wide awake and can't for the life of me sleep :wall2:

Is this your first? (sorry, you probably did say back in the thread, I need to have a good read and catch up!)

Similar symptoms to me then. Just very sore boobs today. :)

He he I can see from my signature why you’d think I was on 3. This will be baby 2. My first and second ticker are just my sons age and how long I’ve been breastfeeding him for. So I’m pregnant and breastfeeding! :)

It’s a shame your manager isn’t approachable. You’ll have to let us know how it goes with her.

This part of pregnancy definitely drags!

Hi and welcome :) I work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and we quite often have babies that you can’t look after if you’re pregnant. For that reason I have told work already, otherwise pretty much every shift I would be trying to discretely tell the nurse in charge that day that I can’t look after a certain baby! Also, we’ve been a bit rubbish anyway and most people who we see regularly already know. We’re not going to announce it publicly on social media or to people we don’t see as often until after first scan though

WELCOME Rosie :D looks like we have the same EDD. October is a great month ;)

I work part-time as a mental health worker. I told my boss as soon as I found out because keeping the secret is not worth risking the pregnancy.

Yeah this is best for the safety of your baby

Yes and so so bloated. But on the plus side my nausea has easeed off :)

Anyone else suddenly feeling more hungry than usual? :(

Definitely! I was joking with my husband that I have two hunger states....just eaten & starving!! If I’m really hungry then I often feel a bit sick as well but it then eases off when I eat. I’m also getting really tired now as well. Luckily I’m not at work today and was able to have a nap this afternoon! Working nights this week though so not sure how that’s going to affect things.

I HAVE BEEN EATING SO MUCH :( but year hungry hungry pregnant lady here.

BTW I can officially say I have joined the morning sickness club  How will I survive Uni tomorrow?

-Sev

I’ve eaten like the whaleyest whale you ever saw! I’ve had so much chocolate. I really need to get back on it tomorrow but glad I’m not alone! :)

Yay how exciting being EDD buddies! I'm only dated via the NHS calculator, hopefully it's about right! It feels so long away though!

Ah ok, sounds like I do need to have a word with my manager then, I certainly don't want to be put in positions that feel unsafe to the pregnancy. Even just all the manual handling/ turning patients in bed feels a bit intense though - so much to worry about!
