Hey girls.

Wondered if there were any tips on doing up a nursery on the cheep. I'm basically skint and so don't want to pay out loads on furniture etc.

The main thing is like clothing storage.... We were gunna get a wardrobe but considering their clothes are so tiny is there any point as it would just be wasted space and can see it being plain annoying trying to find an outfit if its all folded in draws and i know they'll all just end up a mess!

Pics welcome of your storage solutions! :D

I used our DVD/cd/book shelf thing as a baby storage thing. As you can move the shelves about I made a bigger gap at the too and put a curtain line accross the top so I could hang some clothes up. The stand can be bought from ikea:

As I said you can shuffle the shelves about so you could create to hanging spaces...all you need to do is get some screw hooks to go in the inside and then get some string or cord to create a hanging line. I use some of he other shelves to store nappies etc

good thing us that I can convert it back to use as a DVD stand again.

ooooh gives me an excuse 2 go 2 ikea, guilty secret, totally addicted to tht shop

Good Thread! I'm just getting the wallpaper stripped in babys room now. I'm also looking on freecycle for a wardrobe and hest of drawers. Failing that I'm keeping an eye out on gumtree. I'm not sure how sturdy those canvas wardrobes are but if I can't get anything else I'll get those. I'm not sure how to decorate the room. I like all the expensive stuff and I can't afford it hahaha.

x

This is what i mean....the nursey looks a lot different than this now. I have little pea green boxes on the shelves now and a green rug etc

Oh that looks good hun. I wish we had an IKEA nearer! X x x x

I love how you've done your nursery with the CD racks, that's brilliant!
I wish I had a spare room for baby number 2, but I've only got 2 bedrooms, so poor little man has to share with me :( Quite disappointed as would love to do his own room up for him!
xx

aww shooting star thats a great idea!
We've decided on buying two deep low bookcases, putting the back 2 back and then we can use the top as his changing area and the shelves we are gunna get some nice baskets and use them for his clothes and one for nappies wipes and cream etc. killing 2 birds with 1 stone!:)

and plus we already had 2 matching bookcases we didn't use so haven't had to spend out anything other than the boxes. will be starting to get it all organised in the next couple of weeks so will post some pics as im sure i probably just confused loads of you :oooo:

we are starting to look for some nice things to put on the walls too. But not really much.... :/ the room is white so we need to add some nice bright colours but just don't want to buy anything too bright in case it just looks weird:shock:

you could buy a couple of canvases (places like the cheap book shops usually have them at good prices) then let yourself go crazy with some paint
will only cost you a few quid but it will be personal to you and you can pick exactly what colours to use :)

You dont have to be artistic to do it either, you could just paint it one main colour and then do splashes of other colours on top :)

I've seen those animal stickers on ebay that you can stick on walls..they're in some shop as well but quite expensive.I just thought I would do that as I don't trust my painting skills !

we're renting a flat so we arent allowed to paint. lol and thanks teampc i will have a look around! we are putting up some bright curtains. Have 2 small windows so just need to decide on a colour. We have a monkey rug we got for £2 at a nearly new baby sale so colours need to be bright i think... :/ just not sure what colour as don't really want to do blue... might see if i can find any animal curtains or blinds
