well not actually the nursery but our bedroom where baby will be sleeping

we have a flat on the 2nd (top) floor, it is heated by storage heaters (look like radiators)

they have a mind of thier own, everyone that has them that i have spoken to says how bad they are but unforunately all our block has them so we have to make do

the trouble is they are either very hot or very cold no matter how you alter the settings, there is no comfortable inbetween, when we go to bed temp is ok but every night we both wake up about 2-3am sweating so much that we have bad head aches and conjestion, this is even sleeping with the window open!!!

we are worried if it does this to us what will it do to a baby

is there anything that anyone can suggest? we didnt know about a de-humidifier? any other advice or tips would be greatfully recieved

im sorry for the long post but we are both very worried

hmmm Im not too sure really hun

Deffo get a room thermometer though. Can you not turn the heater off just in your room and then make sure bubs has plenty of layers incase its cold and do the same for you. Its much, much worse for baby to get too hot than it is to be a bit chilly and you both make sure you have extra layers then you should be ok. Too hot is definately a no no though

xx

Hi, I agree with Tilly-your prob best turning them off in the night. I love the heat and get cold relly easily, but we never have our central heating on at night, it gets far too warm and uncomfortable. i might be wrong but I don't think most people have it on throught the night.
It's on a timer tho to come back on in the morning so when it's freezing your ok when you get out of bed can you do that with thoses electric ones or do you have to control them manually?

I also have storage heaters & apparently you can set a timer :rotfl: :rotfl: yeah right. What I will probably do is turn off the one in the bedroom & get a stand alone oil or electric radiator. The oil ones are quite cheap to run & totally safe & can be regulated much easier.

cheers girls as tadpole says u cant time them, they r on or off and if u turn them off then when u turn them bk on they take 24hrs to store heat, they are crap!!!

thanks for the help, im gonna turn the bedroom one off now and give it a go, see how it is 2nite 8)

Storage heaters? As in night storage heaters? If them they don't sound like they are doing their job right and you should get them looked at. Record the temp readings for a couple of weeks to see what it does in the bedroom.

You should be able to control the input and output properly so as to have the input on high and the output low, and then to increase the output when you need it.

Chucking out heat when they feel like it or not being able to adjust the settings and have them work sounds like a failing and I'd be after someone to fix it.

Are you tenants? If so thats a landlord job. Get on to him/them. Also contact your electricity company as the whole point of night storage is they charge up overnight in off peak hours and are meant to save on costs. Then you can have the heat released over the day and evening to change again overnight. If you cannot control them there is a problem. Chances are its the landlords job, but it can't hurt to see what the electricty company have to say about it.

Failing that I'd switch the one in the bedroom off totally and buy a small radiator and timer and use that when LO is small. With a room thermometer you should be able to control the temp to within an acceptable margin.

I have a storage heater in my flat too and its crap. Never works properly - fires out heat during the day and not at night

I've switched mine off now and hoping to move by the time they need to be back on again.

We have these in our flat too, and will also have the baby in our room as our lease doesn't run out til Jan so no point moving til then.

We have two in our loung/dining room, on of which is usless most of the time and the other we forever switching back and forth and OH was turning the dials without saying anything, soon after I'd done them! So now the comfortable balance on that one is it is now permantly on the highest input and output at the same time and it hasn;t changed our bill either. But in the bedroom we have just gone for extra blankets! x

I think the problem with mine is that they are really old. They do heat up over night and aren't massively expensive. It just doesn't seem to make much difference how I move the output button. It may also just be me & the way I use them. TBH as I live in a converted barn the walls are so thick it never really gets that cold so haven't been too worried about it. Just keep them on a low setting throughout winter. Have already turned them off for the year anyway now.

they really are useless arent they!!!

well we have now turned the one in our bedroom off, we are going to get a stand alone radiator with thermostat instead and also a temp monitor for the wall so we can keep an eye on it, the baby monitor we have also shows the temperature thankfully
