November 2020 Mummies

I'm off to see my midwife today to collect my notes and have my blood taken etc. :) I've actually done my hair properly for the first time in about six weeks and will be putting makeup on and wearing my contact lenses, haha. What a strange experience!

Nothing like a lockdown to facilitate lots of sleepins and rest in tri one.

Yes. I think once we go back to work it'll be very strange getting up at 7 again instead of 8. We had our hours cut yesterday. So as of May 1st I'll be working a four day week with a 20% pay cut. I was a bit annoyed at first but it's the entire company, even the CEOs. So I suppose it's just to safeguard our jobs and it's only for three months.

How're you doing? :)

Hah I know the feeling. I have to drag myself through and online course on Zoom on Thursday and Friday and I'm gonna have to wash and brush my hair before colleagues can see me on their screens and I'll be doing the same for my scan in a couple of weeks.

Enjoy your trip out even though it's for bloods

Haha, I shall do! I gave up dressing for my colleagues from about the second day of working from home. Fortunately they did too, lol.

How long til your scan now? Mine is three weeks today which still feels like a lifetime away.

This is the first time anyone except my husband and kids have seen me since I left work 5 weeks ago seems like it should be a big deal but I'm worried about the amount of vomiting I'm going to have to hide from them.

It's 2 weeks today, still feels like an eternity to go but the days are ticking down slowly. We can get each other through the wait!!!

Ooh I didn't think of that. Do any of your colleagues know about the baby yet?

And yes, we will do :) Hopefully it'll go quicker than we think!

My boss knows and everyone else knows I'm in a vulnerable group which is why I'm not working - they've probably put 2 and 2 together and worked it out though. I'd probably be wondering if I was pregnant in their place.

Do many people know about you being pregnant?

I told my great-grand manager and my closest colleague the day after I found out. Fortunately the company policy changed to 'everyone work from home' two days later so it wasn't that odd when I wasn't in the office on the Tuesday.

After the scan I told two other close colleagues and yesterday I had to explain to my other colleague why I had lots of 'appointments' in our diary. He knew about the IVF anyway so asked if it was something to do with that and, because of my autism, I find it very difficult to lie, haha. So I just told him :)

Everyone else in our team can know after the next scan if everything turns out ok :/

All the best @SockVortex.

That will be next week for my scan :) don't seem real yet as haven't got my notes haha

Let us know how you get on xx

Had my appointment and got my notes :) I always get complimented on my veins, it's so funny. It's like they were made for taking blood from. They always behave, haha.

I have my midwife appointment for blood tomorrow, we’re they all PPE up for you today @SockVortex ?
Got my letter for scan today, il be 13+1 on the 7th may. Which is my sons 5th birthday

Yeah it was literally empty in the waiting area and everyone was wearing all the appropriate stuff. They sanitised everything within an inch of its life, haha. I felt very safe :)

Got a dreadful blood blister on my arm now. I normally don’t bleed at all after a blood test. Very strange!

When do you need to start side sleeping in pregnancy? Has anyone tried this?
Apparently in later stages of pregnancy sleeping on your back is not recommended, but I'm definitely a solid back sleeper.

I imagine it will only be when we have bumps. I’ve only ever slept on my side so fortunately I won’t have to change any habits there.

It might be worth practicing though, if you think it’ll be hard for you to adapt later on :)

I think about 20 weeks is when you're supposed to stop back sleeping. I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and I've been trying to train myself, using my pregnancy pillow is the best way I've found!

Where did you get your pillow from? I think I should get one of these.

I've been side sleeping with an extra duvet between my legs (like now you would use a pregnancy pillow) as I'm a front sleeper so it's been so hard trying to get out of that habit. It's so hard trying to change sleeping habits xx
