For all the November 2017 mummies (and those early birds or late (birds..ha) who were in our thread to keep up to date with our babas, ask questions & seek advice. X

Following on from feeding... how do you all make up formula? There are so many ways and on the tub it says boil kettle and cool for 30 mins, so just curious what works for everyone? Xx

Hi April
Well it's changed since my girls were babies

I used to make up bottles for the whole day with powder and store in the fridge and warm when needed

But now I make up.2/3 with just boiled water put them in the fridge and only add the powder when I need the bottle

For my 3yo we used to make up a few bottles to take to bed and warm them up. Not sure if we knew it wasn't advised then or not..

Then through the day we'd boil 2/3s cool in fridge add 1/3 fresh boiled hot as an when we needed them.

I'm confused about leave to cool for no more than 30mins as I thought it needed boiling water to sterilise the powder? :/ We've a perfect prep machine this time. X

Yesterday when I went to the bathroom I found a piece of tissue. Bloody and a flesh colour. It was about 4cm long.

I stopped bleeding a week or so ago, just getting a little pinkish discharge. Until this. Also I've had period pains before the thing came out and today I've got a feeling like I'm bloated.

Now I had retained placenta with my daughter but I was bleeding really heavily with large clots which was a telltale sign. Anyone else getting bits and pieces coming out? Not sure who to ring either. I've kept the 'thing' just in case which OH thinks is gross.

I haven't had any clots since day 3 ..I wouldn't worry too much but contact your midwife or Gp on Monday, unless you feel unwell or you're losing more clots
I'm a nurse but not a midwife

I'm unsure about bottles now..I'm going to Google and see what I can find out

It wasn't a clot, it wouldn't break up and was white / peach in colour. (Yuk I know)

Health visitor is coming Monday so I'll see what she says. I don't feel well this evening but could be psychosomatic. X

Hey Starchild, I'd definitely get checked if you don't feel well, can you ring maternity ward?

Well I've googled and when making up bottles and you should put the powder in 30 mins after kettle boils, but are you ok to make up.a few bottles and store in the fridge?

Could you make them up without powder then add boiling water & powder just as you need it? It's all really confusing.

I'm not under the midwife anymore, I guess I could but I'm not bleeding & don't have a fever so it can't be anything too serious. I'll go hospital if anything else happens or I feel worse. X

In my area we can call the midwife for up to 28 days after they’ve handef you over to the health visitor for anything baby or you related

I can’t believe my baby is two weeks (and a day) old already!

Oh that's good to know, although think I'm past 28 days now. Hmm. I know I rang midwife last time but I was only 2 weeks pp.

Time really is flying by. LO is a whole month old today! Unbelievable. X

I know girls!!! I can't believe Lola is 2 weeks 4 days!! Almost 3 weeks ..its flown , she's already grown out of her first baby grow!!!

I've decided to make bottles up 2 at a time and do it as per instructions 30 mins add powder then use as soon as they are cool enough

Hope you're ok Starchild, if you start to feel unwell or pass anything else then just ring your Gp

Xxx

I've felt much better no more bits and bobs coming out and no bleeding/cramps.

My LO has started fussing with his bottle now and again. Wondering if the teats too big/too small. And people say bottle feeding is the easy option lol xx

Lola is a bit fussy with bottles and bf lol
You could try different teats?

She hates her moses basket ..Every time I try to put her down at night she wakes up and screams , so I've ended up with her in bed which I don't want
Just so tired and it's the easy option :(

I'm thinking the teat may be to blame as he won't take a MAM soother but will take tommee tippee. But some feeds he's fine.

HV was meant to call today & didnt. LO has had some discharge coming from his eye. No redness or anything else, though.

I've also started bleeding. 4 weeks pp and not breastfeeding, cramps too, so thinking possible period.

Bless her. Have you tried putting a hot water bottle on mattress for a few minutes before laying her in?? X

Clover, as long as you’re doing it safely and you’re both getting the rest you need you’re doing fine! Don’t think of it as an easy option, just the best option at the moment.
Have you tried putting a tshirt of yours into the basket?

Thanks girls
Well.she did settle in the basket for a few hours but she ended up in our bed ..she only sleeps about 2 hours and she's awake again, she was awake from 1-4am so I took her downstairs, I think she has wind as she was crying but not wanting to feed

I use Tommy tippee bottles Starchild as well as bf, ate the MAM bottles better for colic/wind, it takes forever to get her wind up..amd I think it's causing her tummy ache

Cati i don't mind Co sleeping but there just isn't much room so I'm scared of her getting squashed if I put her in between me and my husband so I have her in the outside and then I'm scared of her falling out of bed

So have you just been making up as directed by the tub, fridged and warmed when needed? Or left at room temp til needed?

My boy was 3 weeks yesterday :( xx

They're anti colic bottles. Little man doesn't really struggle with wind often so could be bottles are working.

Have you thought about one of those next to me cribs? X
