My two dogs

Yeah usually the people telling you to get rid of the dogs are people who actually don't have any themselves! Not that I would know yet, but I think having a baby when you have a dog just means things will have to change a bit to make room for everyone living together peacefully and once your dogs / baby get into a routine, they will be fine.

I know my dog is going to be excellent with a kid (and very nosey with a new baby) btu was thinking that when I bring the baby home, I should also give him an exciting toy so he assosiates the baby with good things and it will also keep him occupied for an hour til he settles down! Your right though, its just like having another child!

You will have to decide once bubs is here.

Before Chester we had 2 dogs a puppy lab and a older lurcher. I said I would never get rid of my dogs cus we've had them for years (the lurcher) and they were our life, but how things change once your precious baby gets home!

The lurcher was not happy with the baby and started grumbling and getting a bit nervous, he just had to go, he was a big dog and I simply couldnt risk it. We kept the lab cus he seemed to be getting on ok with the new baby.

Now the lab (alfie) and Chester are best friends, Alfie sniffs him and chester laughs and they get on so well, i'm glad we didnt rehome both dogs but it was definately the right decision to rehome the lurcher.

I would like to say we would never rehome our dogs. We have a 4 year old Alaskan Malamute bitch and a 3 year old German Shepherd. Malamute is great around children and babies, slightly over protective though, whereas Leo is a bit more excitable, hopefully though by next year he will have calmed down a bit by then. He has been snipped but is still very puppyish.

I love our dogs to bits.

We had puppies from our bitch last year, you can see pictures of them on the website www.snowjacques.co.uk

We also have a blody African Grey Parrot, which isn't my choice of pet but is my husbands. He is so noisey. If I had a choice of pets to get rid of he would go first.

Hi ya...

I have a boy Rottie too and he´s a big friendly giant, i had him snipped and it made a world of a difference, it seemed to calm him right down but thats not to say it will with every dog, anyhow i have another dog too a chow chow and there is no way i´ll ever think about rehomig them till (god forbid) i should have too..

I also have an african grey too and maaaaaaan is he noisy, grrr, I also have.... wait for it.... a little pot bellied pig which we bought about 3 weeks ago now, ´she´s only about 10 weeks old bless her but she´s hard work, not sure if we´ll cope when my little one comes tho with all these animals but i was saying last night whilst putting eastenders on pause for about the 5th time at least i know already what its like to not be able to do anything in peace.. lol... hmmm

Tell your mil to bog off.

If your dogs are well trained, you prepare them for the babys arrival, make sure you have door gates up so you can keep them seperate from the baby when you need too and can still give them the time they need. Why give them up.

I have a loopy greyhound and i wonnt be getting rid of her when i am finally in here. No way - shes family as your dogs are!

My dog was my baby for almost five years before l had DD. l was really worried when l fell preg as she was with me all the time as DH worked away during the week. l started to make small changes, put stairgate up so she had to sleep in her own bed and not mine and also so that she couldnt follow me everywhere in the house. Prob became a tiny wee bit firmer with her as l wasnt at all. l still gave her loads of hugs though and praised her loads. When we brought baby home we let her have a good smell, told her she was good and tried to involved her. She is great with my 5 year old and always has been, so gentle with her, they play all the time and she even allows my wee one to dress her up with chains, hairbands and tiaras. She is an alsation. You just need to involve them.
