How do you manage repairs and such to clothing in your home?

Do you have sewing/repair skills or do you bin clothes when they tear/are worn? Do you feel as if repairing clothes is pointless or a very important part of caring for your wardrobe?

We have a pile of clothes that need repairing, everything from ripped pockets - my husband always puts too much stress on pockets! - to stress tears around belts/ties etc.

I firmly believe in keeping things and repairing them until they are past repairing. I believe it's an important part of taking care of my clothes and my appearance.

I also believe in tailoring your clothes to fit your figure (the reason why celebs always look like their clothes were made for them!) although I don't have the skills to do so right now. If I could afford to go to a seamstress and have my clothes taken in/fitted etc it's something I'd definitely do.

I have no idea how to repair them so happily making then in a pile waiting for my mom to visit  that's if the clothes are fairly new, if they are quite old I either bin them, donate them or repair them and use them to be cozy at home and the yard rather than outside the house.

If I had an item of clothing that I paid some money for then I'd repair it, or get it repaired

Cheap clothes go to the clothes bank Im afraid

I really wish I knew how to take in clothes etc to get that proper fitted look that you talk about, but I can't really sew on a button if I'm honest

Wish I knew how!

I repair. Have only recently taught myself how to sew, do basic repairs (like hemming etc) and reuse clothes. So for example recently DD had a growth spurt and lots of her jeans were too short but still fit on waist. I turned them into varying lengths of shorts for her. Husband recently tore a pair of jeans at the crotch that I've fixed and I've mended a couple of dresses the dog has accidentally ripped.

I repair oh work clothes, he also puts too much in pockets !
I would repair and adjust any nice clothes I had but don't have any really so my cheap things go in the bin

i have a pile of clothes of mine and OH's that I need to sew buttons onto or mend although i haven't got around to doing them recently (probably because I don't fit into any so don't see the point!) But I do try to mend clothes instead of just throwing them out, unless they're completely worn out.

Wish I knew how to adjust clothing myself too, will have to look into that.

My sisters friend is amazing at sewing, she used to go to a fabric shop in the week and make herself an outfit for the weekend for next to nothing, jealous!

I ask my mum to repair clothes for me, otherwise they go to the charity shop or bin x

I can't even sew a button on!

My OH on the other hand is a qualified seamstress (courtesy of the RAF!) but I've never actually seen him see anything! He puts too much in his pockets too and clothes tend to be sent to the clothes bin here.

I sew and mend clothes unless they are beyond repair x

Tapatalking from my blackberry!

If it's an easy repair then I just get my sewing kit out. Similar to what others have said if it's a cheapo bit of clothing it goes to the recycle bin.

If you want to learn about adjusting your own clothes you could choose a few items that are either past it or cheap and literally take them apart and put them back together again with your own alterations. I think a bit of experimentation would give you a good grounding.

Depends.

If the clothes are still in good condition (not stained up, etc.) I will sew them up. If they are tattered, they become rags for cleaning or for the garage.

I repair, oh's mum showed my how to work a sewing machine so I try and repair everything. If I like something & can make it last I'll give it my best shot!

But I'm no seamstress so had a few mishaps along the way :) I'm so short buy tailoring trousers I save by paying someone else to do them. Xx

I repair most things. Even stuff that gets stained/worn/tatty I might keep for cleaning or getting grubby in so I don't ruin my good things. I've had to learn to alter trousers as I'm so short, I'm not quite gokwan tho whipping out the sewing machine!!

i hardly ever bin anything lol. if its beyond repair depending on whats wrong with it i may even keep it for when decorating or dyeing y hair etc

i mend clothes and also make clothes out of other clothes, like rip the neck out a tshit and crop it so i can tie it in the middle and wear it over a longer vest top. I make jeans into shorts, anything totally feckered is a cleaning cloth! ( mens t shirts make the best dusters! great on glass! )

i love to sew, i find it therapeutic!
