Hey ladies. I found out this morning that I'm going to be induced on 28/02 due to various problems becoming too painful to cope with. Do any of you have any experience of induction? Or some advice? I'll be 39 weeks exactly. Thanks xx

Mummy to Francesca. Born 10/08/2011. Expecting my baby boy, Benjamin. Due 07/03/2013.
High risk due to rhesus negative, depression/anxiety, high BMI (35), previous 3rd degree tear with haemorrhage, SPD and costochondritis.

I was induced using the drip only for prolonged rupture of waters. I was dreading it but it was my best labour yet and no more painful than my non induction labours x

Really? I was told being induced is much more painful! That's what I was most worried about!xx

I was induced with the drip and it was by far my favourite birth and easiest of all 3.

The worst was my C section last week. I'll probably never have another child because I'm too scared I'll have to have one again.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad time with your section :( From what ladies have said I'm feeling more confident about this induction now :) xx

I was induced at term + 13 and was only in labour for 9 hours in total.

I got two pessaries in and after the second one was inserted my waters went and I quickly dilated.

I haven't had any other labours but I had a positive experience, was all so quick. Good luck xxxx

I had an augmented labour (I got to 6cm on my own and then it just all slowed down) so I ended up on the drip and I had my waters broken.

It is very unusual to go in at 5cm and then have such a long labour - I was 14 hours to get from 5cm to meeting baby - and it was bloody painful.

However I didn't tear or graze or need any kind of intervention to deliver. I managed a natural delivery despite being in labour for 40 hours all in and being half dead with tiredness

xxxxxxxxxx

I had a 24h pessary at term +13 to get labour started. Labour kicked in spot on 24h later and took 6 h. I had an epidural but actually got to 8 cm on my own. I have nothing to compare it to though. Xx

I don't want an epidural. Of everything that could happen, an epidural or spinal tap would be a nightmare for me. (After previous experience). I'm hoping I can manage on just gas and air and pethidine again...xx

I did my induction on dimorphine and gas n air although I wasn't on the drip xxxx

I'm not scared of the pain too much, my previous labour was excruciating, My contraction were every 2-3 minutes lasting a minute or more from 2cms so as long as this labour isn't like that as well as the contractions being more painful I think I'll be ok xx

I had a horrible induction, and as much as i hated my c section I would rather have that than be induced again. I will never consent to being induced again.

I was told AFTERWARDS that it goes one of 3 ways:

1) You go into labour, you have a normal labour, everything goes normal from then on
2) you dont go into labour. Nothing happens. Youre bored. :clock:
3) You start having contractions, but youre not actually dilating. This is what happened to me, it went on for days. They call them 'induction pains' but as far as I was concerned they felt exactly the same as contractions, and measured as contractions on tehe monitor. Very depressing, because the thing that gets you through contractions is knowing youre one step closer to seeing LO.

I ended up being given the drip, I hadnt slept for 3 days, and they all but insisted I had an epidural. I didnt want one and I hated it too. They told me the drip would be very painful and Id need one before they started it  PMA and all that!

Induction reduces your options in terms of using a birthing pool and being able to walk around as they prefer continuous monitoring after an induction, policy varies from place to place, so its worth asking these sorts of questions before. I thought Id be able to go in the birthing pool once I got to labour ward and was a bit devastated to be told there was no way...

I know that a lot of people had great expereinces of induction and I hope that things go well for you, but I had no idea about option 3! I just thought it would work or it wouldnt, I wish I had been better prepared so I hope this helps you!

I have no idea if its more painful or not cos Ive only ever had one labour so nothing to compare it to.

I didn't know about that option 3 either  Sheeeeeeeeessshhhhhh..... Slightly concerned after hearing this... More RLT for me! This baby better come before 28th! Lol xx

RLT and sex! And walking, aparently one foot on one off the curb helps move baby down your pelvis!

I'm already drinking RLT, have been for nearly 4 weeks now. I physically can't have sex anymore, it's just too painful! But I might dose myself up on painkillers and tell OH to be gentle ha ha. I plan on cleaning the entire flat over the next 2 days including scrubbing the floors lol then got a lot to do on Wednesday so will be walking around all day :) xx

 good luck!

Maybe eat a vindaloo as well... lol

Good luck :)
I didn't have a nice induction either. Would never have it again.
Trust me, the pain of sex is noting compared to an induction lol. DTD as much as you can. Keep active, like u said, cleaning etc. nipple stim can help too as it releases oxytocin, but you have to do it for like 30 mins a few times a day.

I wish you all the best x

IThe whole reason I'm being induced is pain, I suffer with hyper mobility sybdrome in my hips and knees, and I've got severe SPD and costochondritis on top of it. I can barely move from bed these days :( I love my painkillers a little too much at the moment!xx

Ah, yes, the hyper mobility would make DTd difficult. Sorry, didn't realise that :)

Ha ha no prob :) xx
