I will not give my baby formula!!!!!!!

Harry suffered badly with wind in the begining, we founds gripe water especially at night really helped and laying him on his tummy

Ahhhh right, thanks.
He gets hiccups all the time too, that might help, ta hun xx

Cam's wind was absolutely awful!! I'm not sure if it was a latch issue but I imagine more down to dairy allergy.
Gripe water was my saviour for aaaaaages!
Also, just for the record, I also changed to a medicated FF at 16 weeks and am not at all offended by this. I think the o/p was more of a rant about lack of support for her choices feeding baby, nothing more x

Thanks Princess, that's completely what it was.

I think my lo's wind is caused by the fast flow I have on one side. He guzzles so fast, then splutters and takes in a lot of air. I've tried changing position but it doesn't really help.
I'll try gripe water.

Thanks girlies xx

Or lying him belly-down over your knees and rubbing his back? X

Is Amelie the only baby that has a complete shit fit if I lay her on her tummy????

Oooh good idea.
I tend to throw him over my shoulder but he just falls asleep :wall: xx

Cam used to hate tummy time on the floor :oooo: now he actively chooses to lay in it

No! My twins absolutely hated it, created blue murder! She's not the only one xx

Hi cosmicgirl, I just wanted to offer my support as I know exactly how hard it is when 'well meaning' family/OH suggest trying formula when you so desperately want to continue bfing. I remember sitting with my mum trying to bf my little girl, nipples red raw and blood running into her mouth and my mum suggesting I wouldn't be failing if I gave her formula, I persisted through that, I then developed an open wound on one of my nipples which I continued to feed on despite the pain and on top of it had have PND which doesn't help! Good on you for sticking to what you believe in and doing what you believe is best for your LO (hope that doesn't sound patronising as it's not meant to be!) xx

My little girl screams the house down if I try and put her on her tummy xx

Thank you so much Mrs Bump, the support means the world to me.
I also have an open wound at the moment, have had for 2 weeks now, that's what started the row between me and oh!
It means a lot to me to have others who have been there and understand why this is important to me.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and well done to you too xxx

no harry still hates tummy time, but is getting a bit better, he likes to flip himself on his tummy play for 5 mins then scream the house down even though he can roll back himself he prefers screaming. x

I feel silly to make suggestions as you are a mother to five but Cranial osteopathy really helped C's wind issues as did gripe water.

Xx

I do worry though that I'm running on empty at times. When the swallowing slows right down but the sucking doesn't. I swap him to the other boob and he then starts regularly swallowing again, so he hasn't finished. Then I think to myself "was the other boob empty?".
Then if he stirs again shortly after we've finished, I feel like I'm putting him back onto an empty boob x

The fast sucking is him getting to the foremilk, the slow deeper sucks are pulling forward the fatty hindmilk. It takes a lot of sucking to get to the hindmilk.

When my boobs are overly full in the mornings I get an abundance of foremilk, and my boobs feel empty even though I still have quite a bit of hindmilk in them. Xx

I've never had a problem from the time point of view, you just adapt with each consecutive child don't you xx

C is my first baby and it took 7 long weeks to get him to latch so I have been worried about what will happen when I go onto having more....

To top it all off my MIL is trying to convince me that I should FF from 6 months.... Wish I could just get on with it! Xx

Anyway, back to sensible conversation.

We've been up twice since 10pm and I do feel like supply is up, you were right girls, that must have been what he was doing.
He's been a lot less restless after feeding so maybe I did lack some supply before???

I find he really struggles with wind and won't bring anything up no matter how long I try.
Anyone else find their BF baby suffers with terrible wind? Could it be a fast flow?? x

How old is he hun? There are claims that there are growth spurts at 4/8/12 weeks.... I just think they are all the flipping time because C is a big feeder.

Could be fast flow.... I battle with over supply in my right boob which is C's favoured boob. I have too much fore milk and that gives LO a sore tummy.... I think!! X

Sorry to pop into this thread but I just wanted to say a huge well done to you Cosmic. I totally admire your determination to breast feed and you are such a strong woman for persevering through all the difficulties you have had. I wish I'd had your strength to keep going. I ff MJ now after difficulties with BFing, sometimes I feel I gave up too easy, other times I'm glad I tried. Anyway, keep on going hun you're doing amazing!!

I use infacol with MJ for his wind, sometimes his burps sound like they come all the way up from his toes!

Xxx

He's 4 weeks and one day.
I know he's putting on loads of weight so it possibly is growth spurts, I'll be so glad when things even out x

Thank you so much for the support and lovely comment. It has been so so hard at times but worth it.
At times I have sat crying in the dark, wondering if I'm doing the right thing but that passes quickly most of the time.
Well done to you for trying, you've done what you thought was best for your lo so don't ever feel like you've given up too easily, I don't believe any mum worth their salt gives up on anything easily.
Thank you lovely xx
