HSG - what next?

Hi Anna, I think every hospital might be slightly different. I initially saw a gynaecologist and then had to be referred to an infertility nurse at another hospital to get clomid. Although my letters from the clinic state I'm still under care of gynae so it's a bit confusing!

Might be good to give them a ring and put your mind at rest xxx

It is indeed very confusing as it's the same consultant who works in the gynaecology department and the assisted conception unit. It would seem weird that he would refer me to another department to see himself...?

I will try to give them a call as my dh is taking the morning off work to come with me which is quite tricky for him and I don't want him to bother if it's just going to be a waste of time :(

Thanks all for your replies xxx

Im going in on Tuesday they say its called a hycosy. I get a injection in my cervix which releases foam in to my tubes then I have a xray and a scan which shows the foam in my tubes xx

Hi Londongirl. Or literally just had my follow up appt 2 days go and I have to go back in October when they've said they'll hopefully be putting me on the waiting list for ivf. They didnt mention clomid to me as I've already done clomid before being referred to the specialists so its in my noted Ive already tried it.
There are many different courses they could go down so I would go with an open mind and be excited for whatever treatment they start u with x

Hey Anna I saw on another post that you are having to pay for clomid on nhs, what the hell? Xx

I know!! It's the scans i have to pay for. I was flabbergasted and so angry - cant believe they wait until this point to tell you that?! Going to call gp and find out if I can transfer to another hospital but god only knows how long that would take. And now Chelsea and Westminster have prescribed me clomid I think I am probably stuck with them.

I can only hope that paying means I don't have to wait an hour for each appointment the way I had to today!!

Am still fuming about it. It's not like it's a small amount of money - if it doesn't work at first and I have to be scanned on several cycles it's going to cost over a grand!!

Oh and they only fund one round of ivf. Better start saving - this could all cost so much money. I can't believe it.

I said to dh - doctors keep telling us how important it is to be relaxed to conceive. Well how are we supposed to be relaxed when they spring huge financial burdens on us out of nowhere?!

It's a massive amount of money and I think it's terrible they didn't warn you first!
I hope you are able to switch hospitals, I really feel for you. Or better yet hopefully 1 round of clomid will be all you need xx

I spoke to my gp yesterday who didn't have a clue about who funds what but gave me the names of 2 other hospitals I could have been referred to. I called Kingston and spoke to a very helpful fertility nurse. They wouldn't charge for clomid or the scans and she was quite shocked to hear how much Chelsea & Westminster were charging!

So she said I could ask my gp to refer me to Kingston but it would inevitably involve a bit of delay in things as I'd have to be seen first by their doctor/consultant for him to agree clomid is the correct course of action. She said hopefully we could skip nearly all of the other stages I've gone through with C&W (seeing the nurse, tests, hsg, etc etc). So I've asked my gp to write the referral and we'll see how far away the appointment is. If it's going to be months and months I might still just suck it up and pay at C&W but if it's not so long then I'll switch.

So annoying to be doing all this chasing around! Why can't there just be one policy for the whole of the nhs???

Good on you for doing more research, I totally agree there should be a more consistent approach it's crazy! Hope the waiting list isn't too long xxxx
