Hi

I'm not ready to buy anything yet although we might buy a token gift for baby next week after our second scan.

I was speaking to a girl I know who's got a 2month old and she told me the only clothes she bought for baby were 6 babygrows and 6 vests as she got so may gifts / hand me downs etc.

I then saw another post on facebook last night from someone who's just given birth and going through babygrow's at an alarming rate and had to buy more after just a few days.

How many do you go through a day exactly? This is the first baby for my family and friends etc so I'm at a bit of a loss!! I like to be prepared and want to make sure I'm not left short xx

Hey,

I'm sure I've seen a thread discussing this somewhere but cant find it for you.

I went and bought a few token things the other day so I think I have around 5 nice vests and sleepsuits. However I will also be stocking up on some simple white ones (maybe 10 of each) that don't cost too much as I remember that they stain and grow out of the quite quickly.

No doubt I will go ridiculously overboard despite what I have said here.

xx

Oh god. A lot of people will say 6 of each is plenty. I used 6 in a night once. Little boy who pees all over himself while I'm wiping his bum lol. We are trying again and won't make the same mistake as last time with not having enough to start with haha xxx

6 times?? Pismo, I think you're going to need to buy a few more .

I've asked for M&S vouchers for me and DH (I;m sure he won't mind!) from family who don't know yet so I know what they are going on!! x

you need a good supply, probably 12-18 of each - also depends how quick you can turn your washing around - getting them washed and dried and back in action! and as previous people have said, you can easily go through quite a number in one day/night if they have leaky nappies or bring up milk a lot!

annoying as they grow out of them way before they wear out! I buy second hand or friends stuff, but I know that's not for everyone, lol.

I'd say it probably depends on how sicky / poopy a baby you have?! (Clearly I'm just guessing at this point!)

I've bought probably about 10 sleepsuits and I have 5 vests in newborn, 5 in up to 1 month and 5 in 1-3 months - the vests are just cheapies from tescos that I got in the clubcard boost to go under sleepsuits. I have been bought a TON of sleepsuits by my friends so you'll definitely end up with plenty one way or the other and I always say to myself DH is perfectly capable of driving to the shops to get some extra if it ends up being necessary! x

All comes down to how often you will be washing.

i have 7 newborn baby grows and thats plenty and 14 vests (we change the baby vests more frequently than baby grows). I typically end up doing a wash every 2 days...and never seem close to running out...

Kind of regret the 21 baby grows I have already bought in 0-3. :)

My baby will only poop once a day and it will smell of roses - did you not know that??

Thank's guys, think someone will have to rein me in as I've done some online window shopping and already seen too many unisex babygrows I "need", even though we're finding out the gender :dohh: x

I had around 16 sleep suits and 24 vests for when harper was newborn (I did go a bit a bit crazy with clothes!) but I found that plenty. Harper had reflux so was very sicky and some days I was changing her 6-8 times a day! I done about 2-3 loads of harpers washing a week in the early days x

I suppose you can always keep the tags on if you buy too many?
I've bought some stuff online for 0-3 months old, do not sure whether that covers newborns? Will be stocking up at Xmas sales on unisex stuff for upto 6 months or so :):):):)

Personally we aren't getting through that many. I'd say 6 of each would be plenty. This is including the frequent wee accidents that happen during nappy changing! Although it all depends on how often you want to do washing. We probably have about 10 of each, but I only wash babys clothes about once a week at the moment because they don't tend to really get dirty.

I thought I was going to have a massive baby so barely brought anything in newborn size. Pretty much everything has been hand me downs that LO has worn so far.

I can't even be bothered to go up and count how many I have but I know I have more than enough and more baby grows than vests. I bought 80% of my baby clothes on ebay in bundles for as little as £3 to £8 so I think it's well worth doing that rather than buying all new! Xxxx

I've got a huge bag of handmedown newborn vests, so not going to bother buying any new.
I've also got 7x newborn, 4x up to 1 month, 5x up to 3 months, and 2x 3-6 months babygrows. Most of those have been bought by family and friends!

Our next scan is on 30th Dec, and hoping to find out the sex. I am planning to buy some gender related bits in the Boxing Day online sales, then I'll return which ever ones we won't need.

As others have said, it all depends on how messy your LO decides to be and how quickly you can be bothered washing in the early days.

Definitely leave tags on things etc. My LO was a big baby and grew out of new born clothes within a week. He was too big for first size by about 2-3 weeks, and for the first nine months clothes only lasted him 6-8 weeks as he grew so quickly!

I'm not buying much for this baby regardless of gender!!

My advice would be to buy mainly up to 1 month as they last a little longer, my daughter grew out of newborn very quickly she was 7lb 5oz so not a big baby when she was born. I would say no more than 10 sleepsuits and 10 vests. The gifts I received was for 0-3 months (which she is wearing now at 1 month old) so I wouldn't stock up on many of them either .

Buy a few of each while pregnant as you do get a tonne of clothes as gifts mainly in newborn(which can be annoying aa they dont last). Also i liked going out and picking new bits for baby once he was born so i did that also.

I had about 25 of each. I bought some and people have me them too. It was good tho as I never stressed about washing needing to be done. I also sent a handful to my mums/MILs so that I didn't have to worry about taking them when we went over or when they had her for an hour or two.

I've gone abit over board and have 27 vests lol xxx

I've just seen another thread asking what the difference between baby grows, sleep suits, vets etc is and now I'm totally confused!!! So, a "vest" isn't like a mini adult style vest?! I need a personal shopper! x

Babygro/sleepsuit same thing its just a onesie basically.

Vest it can be long/short/no sleeved and poppers under the bum.
