Hey ladies, I'm interested to know how you felt a few hours before labour started and during. I have felt sick on and off my whole pregnancy and am honestly terrified I will feel really sick and unwell during labour too. I have a bit of a phobia of being sick and I just don't think I can handle the physical pain as well as feeling utterly terrible too. Any advice would be appreciated x x

Unfortunately no one will be able to tell you what it's going to be like. Everyone experiences labour differently. All I can suggest is trying to relax and not worry. I found hypnobirthing to be brilliant.

For me, I don't remember the labour as being painful. I'm sure it must have been at the time but it's something you get through. Be open with what painkillers you'd like and just go with the flow.

Sorry I can't be more help, good luck xxx

Hi Hun. The best advice I can give is that when you get an inkling that you want stronger pain relief ask for it then, rather than waiting too long. Apart from that, all I can say, it will come and go, it won't last for ever and whatever happens you will have your baby at the end of it. I'm Rory to say that my labour was very traumatic and wasnt what I had planned, however I spoke to people that managed just brilliantly without pain relief and it was all over very quickly. As for being sick and feeling unwell, I honestly think labour is the biggest adrenaline rush ever and something just kicks in and helps you to cope.Ultimately try not to keep going over it in your mind as everything you picture simply won't be what happens. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, I hope you have a really good experience when it happens and feel great afterwards, stay strong Hun xx

I am a bit funny about sick (mainly with other people actually!)

I was sick twice during labour, too much G&A, but I didn't feel poorly if that helps. I was just sick in a sink twice and then no more. I didn't feel nauseous.

Like the other ladies say, no-one can tell you how it will be for you.

Some ladies find the contractions can make them sick. However I promise you'll get through it and there will be a point when you wont care about feeling or being sick

Good luck

xxxxxx

I had a horrendous time with sickness in my pregnancy and was just like you - scared that I'd be sick during labour, especially since I planned on a water birth so only using gas and air. I'd had an operation a few years back where I had gas and air to knock me out and I was violently sick after... I'd had precious operations where I hadn't had it and was fine. As it happened I got my water birth and only had gas and air and was fine :) the pain was so intense, being sick never crossed my mind! Xx

I'm the same, terrified of vomiting. I asked for anti emetics as wood as I was admitted. I refused feed and water through the whole labour, which is prob why it was 50H! Don't do that!

I felt a bit sick in early labour but there is so much going on u will hardly notice it

Xx

I also was the same. I see you have 2 more days. OR did you already have the baby? Either way good luck and I hope the baby is very very very healthy.

Now to the labour part. I think something switched on when I actually started labour I wasn't sick I just focused on the actual giving birth. In addition I also used something called Laboraide. I'm not sure if it was psychologically or not but my whole body relaxed and I was able to concentrate on the pushing. My baby popped right out.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I'm just over thinking it because I've been feeling really sick for the last few days and obviously my due date is getting closer and closer. I hope everything happens naturally soon I would rather avoid an induction but at the same time I'm really fed up and ready for this to be over! X x

on a positive note I had two wonderful homebirths :)
I felt a little sick at first, but to be honest I think my labour was so fast it was abit of a shock to the system, enjoy every second of labour, I know that sounds abit hippy, but I went in looking positive and was very lucky...hope your time comes soon xx

I had a number of times where I felt sick in pregnancy but I was fine in labour. I found the time went really quick and you are distracted by focusing on the pains or the pushing or the baby coming etc

When they finally let me have the gas and air I was so happy (felt really drunk) and I was laughing and joking. Hubby took a picture of me in the pool with G&A in one hand a drink in the other grinning away, I look like I'm on holiday lol

You've probably had bubs now - but if you haven't - the midwife told me one of your body's natural ways of coping is to 'clear out'

This worked spot on for me - was still at home but contractions were about 1 min apart when I was sick 2x (plus the 'other' too!)

After that felt fine and not sick at all. Just hoping get the same benefit this time.

Thanks for all your responses ladies! I'm still here no baby yet lol x

i felt queasy, you know yourself best and i refused to eat this time cos last baby i ate during labour and was sick so this time i felt sick but didnt eat and wasnt actually sick :)

Hi

Congrat if you already have a baby and if you are still waiting as i did, i went to hospital 1 week after my due date. so if you are still at home, i want to share my expeirnce with you if your water breaks before due date or even after few days of due date then things will go differnt. but if nothing happens and you still have to go to hospital for delivery then when you are in labour as hosoital people will try to bring you in labour if you do not go naturly.

So when you are labour do not shout too much seriously, you will get lots of pain. unbearable pain but shouting too much does help but you could end up to have section.

I had a section and i can say that i was shouting too much because of the pain so my baby pood inside and i had to have a section, everyone will say its not true but i will say it is true as your baby can hear you so if you shout too much baby wouldnt come out and you will have some problem which will take in operation theatre.

You do forget everything no matter how much pain you had during labour and after birth, and when you see your baby then you forget everything. especaily after few weeks when your baby talks to you and smiles at you then you do not want to remembre anything.

It's different for everyone and I'm sure you'll do just fine! I didn't find labour particularly painful (and I had over 16h of it) just a bit uncomfortable but nothing a bit of paracetamol couldn't take care of. It started being a bit much by the last hour so I had the gas and air which worked great and made me feel quite tipsy lol. One thing that had taken me by surprise is just how compulsive the actual giving birth part was. You really can't stop pushing! It was incredible.

Best bit of advice is to stay calm and relaxed, read about the different stages so that you know what is happening. The more calm and in control you feel the more likely you are to have a positive experience regardless of how your baby ends up being born :).

It's like something entirely primitive takes over as quickly as labor starts and you simply do it. Yes it's really uncomfortable, yes everybody desires it over with however the only means the discomfort is going to stop and they just means that child is going to come out is if you put every ounce of energy you have into pressing with the discomfort and getting that child out of there and that is all i thought about the entire method with. I just had some gas and air when i started to press, i made myself extremely pleased as i'm not somebody who deals with discomfort or ailment really well typically.

2 things i was most anxious about likewise taken place to me, one was getting a catheter fitted, and the second was that i tore and required stiches. Neither of the 2 of these hurt and i understand i will not be terrified of them taking place the 2nd time round:-) I got to keep drawing on the gas and air getting sewn and they offered me an injection in your area for getting sewn (never ever felt this either).

You will be FINE xxx
