Morning ladies,

Been for my 24 week check up (at 23 weeks?!) but anyway Midwife asked if I had thought about where I want to give birth. I got told at my 20 week scan cos I have a high BMI I am classed as high risk and would need to go to hospital in next town. I told her this, she said that anyone with BMI over 35 (mines 36) is recommended to go to hospital but if I felt that strongly and as long as my pregnancy is progressing normally then I can request to go to the birthing Centre instead.

Im not a person who like a lot of medical intervention and dont take medications unless absolute necessary so birthing centre is more my cup of tea but obviously my main priority is the baby. If anything went wrong or needed to be transfered etc I would go to hospital which is about 25mins away. So whats your thoughts have you decided where you want to give birth?

Thanks

XX

when i was pregnant with my daughter i wanted to have her at our local birthing centre, we went for a look around and everything and all was set, towards the end of the pregnancy i was told the birthing centre would be closed at night due to staffing problems and lo and behold my waters went on the saturday night so i had to go to the hospital anyway, i was glad i did as i really couldnt cope with the pain so having a choice of pain relief was a god send, i dont think i would have coped with just gas and air at the birthing centre, but its each to their own i guess and just go with what ever you feel more comfortable with :) xx

We don't have any actual birthing centres near me but I've chosen the midwifery led service within the hospital. It's a home from home without being at home (DH is worried and doesnt want a home birth incase something goes wrong, and I'm not that keen on being in my own house in labour).

It's completely up to u tho Hun. I would suggest booking a visit to the hospital and to the birthing centre and see what suits u best xx

Hey Larlybelle - is that the newish one at Medway you are talking about? Have you had a look around it at all?

I was due to go up to kings due to complications but fingers crossed all goes well at my scan at end of the month they will let me continue with normal birth. So was hoping to have it in the midwifery run bit at Medway which is like a home birth but with everyone on hand lol x

Yeah it is! Not looked round it yet but I'm booking a tour!

Where abouts do u live?

I had the same feelings as you.. I put a thread on here last week about.. After looking around I decided that was the place for me, to then find out 3 days later that I'm diabetic and can't...gutted! The staff are very well trained and if it wasn't safe they wouldn't have them! That's what I decided anyway x

Thanks im gonna keep my options open at the mo till later on down the line and after my GTT test I want the baby to be safe thats the main thing but would like to do it as natural as possible and feel the birthing centre is the way to do that! XX
