homemade baby food v manufactured baby food (from shops)

well im a jar personat the moment as i need a new blender, but i got one this weekend to sort it out and will be making more. There is sod all wrong with some jars, i tend to go for the organic sort and its a quick easy way for food. yes id rather make my own, but if i havent the time i havent the time  i wont beat myself up over it :wall: :rotfl:

Me too, im quite happy to use the jars through choice. Im not guilty and my baby will have at least 1 jar a day.

Call social servicesssssssssssss

HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY!!!!
This is actually my thread loooool :rotfl:
i wasn't aware that it had gone into this type of debate!
All I was asking was - Is it ok to feed baby manufactured food everyday? or is it better to alterate maybe? or should it be just homemade food?

I didn't even go into the breastfeedng thing, because I figured out that a lot of mums on the forum would have loved to breastfeed but just can't. And my question was genuinely about SOLID foods, meaning weaning type of foods, like purees etc.
Please don't let it get out of hands I just wanted a simple answer and I got loads, thanks!

I was really interested to read peoples opinions on this topic myself. I fed my 1st 2 kids on jars but was never sure about them. Its good to see that they are actully 'not that bad' and I'm not the only one who doesn't always have the time to cook. Nathan is on home made at the minute but once he starts on solids propally he will probally go on jars. I know a few mums that do feed their kids junk and its not in jars. I know one girl who fed her baby gravy off a dummy at 6 weeks and wotsits to suck at 14 weeks but its not my place to judge.

We make our own homemade food each day. I don't want to give my child jars of food as I want them to eat what we eat and sometimes you don't know what they put in them jars but it's upto you what you give your child

The thing is (I wont go into the BF bit) is that is she saying even when kids are older, can you not give them their chips, beans and sausages?Christ i know it aint organic and homeade, but whos child wants to eat organic spew everyday?
My LO loves his grub and has the odd fishbake microwave meal, but im not guna kill myself with guilt over feeding it too him, he loves them.

I honestly think with the diet my son has he has grown up eating everything and has no hold ups with food, and i have never forced him to eat anything he doesnt like.

When my DD is born and ready to be weaned she will be on jarred food and some homemade bits like sweet potatoe, carrot ect.But Im not killing myself over a steamer everyday :rotfl:

But im not going to get mad over this thread anymore as i have said my bit on previous page.

Natural momma, congratulations for having the time and money to be completely natural and organic in yours and your families diets, im judging by your username its very important to you so well done, you should be very proud that you are able to live the lifestyle that you want, a luxury many of us cannot achieve.

HOWEVER......that does not mean you have the right to force your lifestyle choice down other peoples throats. If the topic was religion would you do the same, or would you respect other peoples rights to thier own beliefs and opinions?

Jar food is not the cause of allergies - that is down to genetics and the environment. Niether is it the cause of obesity - that is down to poor diets granted, but not jar food - its more to do with TOO MUCH food or very bad junk food once on solids, not jars. Oh and of course lack of exercise and fresh air.

Im pleased we have someone on the forum doing a degree in....what was it again? But anyway, its great to have someone we can ask for advice when we need it, but please dont force anymore of your opinions down peoples throats, its not needed or welcome.

I fed Josh a mix of fresh and jars - jars for convenience and the fresh because I love cooking, so would just do a batch and freeze. I know exactly what is in the jars - it says on the label :D And although fresh food is good - unless you are using freshly pulled veg every day, then the nutrients have already started to deplete in them from the moment they are picked, so jarred food can sometimes have more nutrients in them. As he's grown older, I always home cook apart from a v rare takeaway (less than once a month). I don't buy crisps etc when I shop although he does go to the shop and get himself some sometimes, but as he spends every spare moment skating or playing football, he's fine to do that.

Obesity comes from tons of junk food and a poor diet generally, not from baby food in a jar.

BTW he is incredibly healthy, a perfect weight for his height, full of energy and has never suffered from asthma or eczema

The bottom line is that processed food is CRAP compared to FRESH and breast is BEST

How intolerant. Breast is not always best. You obviously live in some weirdo world and the cooment about you educating people, all you have one is get peoples back up insinuating that they dont love their children because they give them jars.

100% agree with u lauramumof2 :cheer:

i too am really offended with some of the comments regarding this topic & would not normally comment, but this time i am going to!!

i have a nearly 11 year old , a 5 and a half yr old & Louie who is 9 & a half months old & they have all been bottle fed (apart from the 1st 6 wks with my 1st) & fed from a mixture of jarred food & fresh food , but mainly jarred food & NONE OF THEM ARE OBESE, HAVE ASTHMA/EXCEMA, OR ANY OF THE THINGS YOU LISTED ( natural mamma)

i am really pissed off with a few comments about this & think its hilarious that most of the comments are women who aren't even mothers yet, but still expecting, try having 4 kids (i have a stepson too who lives here) a busy life & stand bledning food up for a baby who in the end prefers the jarred stuff anyway  (Louie does, but maybe i'm doing it wrong!!!!)

i am an experienced mother who has 3 gorgeous biological children & been a stepmother for 13 yrs & brought him up for 7 years! so come back & give me some more advise when you have had you're babies!

i don't want to argue with anyone, but for once i had to voice my humble opinion!!!

   well said i asl oagree that most of the women given jarred food bad comments havent yet got children - so how the hell can they comment ??? im proud to feed my son jarred food and would do it with my next child -

At the post natal class we had on weaning the HV was saying that jarred food is very good these days, and often made from better ingredients than you can buy so not to worry about giving them jarred food. However it is comparitively expensive which is why I don't give it to Ellie most of the time - that and because I would rather she eat the same as us, wherever possible.

I've notied that yet again Natural Mamma had thrown in her 2penceworth got everyone wound up but hasn't come back to the topic again do you think her ploy is just to wind everyone up on the forum which she seems to do a lot.

you have a point there hun, she could be winding us all up & then sitting back & laughing her head off

I honestly havent decided on what I am doing yet. I would like to do homemade stuff but how practical is it going to be for me to give LO everything we eat when we have spicy foods and stuff that probably wouldn't be great for them. Plus I am rubbish at freezing stuff

I will probably end up using jars and homemade stuff, surely it's hard enough looking after a baby without getting too stressed out about homemade food when jars are readily available? If I haven't had time to make a homemade meal, I am not going to think I am a failure or a bad mum, I am just normal surely?!

I am proud to say to anyone that my son was jar fed and formula fed and I couldnt give a crap about what anyone thinks of me.
I have a healthy, happy child, what more could a mother want?

agree with mrs_tommorrow (above post) my son is formular fed/jar fed as very very healthy and happy so im not ashamed of it im pround of it and aslong as he is happy and healthy then im a happy mummy

i also agree that "naturalmummy" gets on her high jhourse to much and enjoys winding people up :wall: - she should keep her opinions to her self unless there civil

:)
