So my downs test has just come back high risk. I did expect this as I'm 41 but I was thinking maybe 1/100 not the 1/5 I've received! Knocked me for 6 totally and just really after any advice or input from anyone who's had similar results x

I’ve not experienced a high risk result, but there are ladies who were on my due month thread who did and they opted for the harmony test. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s way more accurate and non-invasive as the amino has a risk factor of miscarriage. Their odds all came back incredibly low risk. Might be worth looking into.

Hi Spriddy, I got a high risk result too and I had harmony test but paid private for it. The results came back really low risk from the harmony. I would recommend having it for peace of mind.
Im sorry you have this uncertainty though. You can have amnio or the cvs via nhs but they are invasive tests that have risk of miscarriage so only you can decide on that. Xxx

I had a high risk of 1 in 91 die to my blood results.
Again I went through the harmony as I didn't want to risk the invasive tests.
Have you got a screening team at the hospital who can talk through your options with you?
Some trusts are trialling the harmony before it comes to the NHS on the next year or so for high risk mum's x

I had amino with my last son so the risk of miscarriage doesn't worry me if im honest. Its just that the news has knocked me for 6. I know the harmony is available for around £400 just not sure x

hi spriddy. i know someone who had a 1 in 2 risk and her baby was fine. But i guess its not always fine and you need to prepare yourself for either way. Would it affect your decision to continue with the pregnancy? Are you planning to have the amnio? I'm sorry you have these kinds of decisions suddenly landed in your lap......its not what we expect .....

I think it depends if or not you really want to find out or if it would affect your decisions to carry on the pregnancy?!?! Knocking you for 6 is a total normal reaction x

If I'm honest there is no way I could terminate a child and I think there's millions of awful conditions out there that aren't screened for that we have to live with. More that my emotions are so raw from the recent death of my mum it's just knocked the wind right out of my sails xx

My moms came back 1 in 5 she told us and we were worried sick! She didn't have any other tests because she said she wouldnt care if she did have downs. She was OK.
I personally would pay for the harmony, just to prepare myself instead of find when they're born. It's totally just your take/opinon on it and weather you'd want to pay or have the nhs one x

I'm so encouraged by hearing you would carry on regardless. iceland claim to have 'eradicated downs syndrome' but all that means is there is 100% abortion rate which i think is quite horrifying personally.

You poor thing, emotions run high in pregnancy without such a loss on top of it. It must seem like one blow after another .
