I am trying to breastfeed. However despite me getting Seren to latch on she has damaged my nipples so much it makes me cry when she feeds. And this is only day 2! The MW's have checked the positioning and apparently it is correct.

I had to go buy and some formula just to feed her tonight because I was in so much pain earlier. I feel such a complete failure. This is my first baby and I know I need to be patient as this is going to take time but it's so hard. The lack of sleep isn't helping either. I've only had 4 hours sleep since 6am Sunday morning.

I don't really know what advice I'm asking but if anyone has been through something similar please let me know I'm not a complete disaster zone.

Oh hun, huge congrats by the way, I will have to look for the posts about the birth! I missed that one!

I have never done it yet, but lots of mums swear by the Lansinoh nipple cream, you can get it in mothercare or sains etc , and it's expensive at £9.99, but the reviews seem tok say it's great,

hope they calm down soon, hang in there

You could also look into nipple shields.... MW may also have freebie Lasinoh samples.

Hope all gets better soon!

evie recommended something called lily pads, they stick to ur nips and not ur bra that are meant to be good too,

ur not a failure at all hun, uve done brill, good luck

Have u tried nipple shields?

If u can't do it, at least u tried. Do not feel bad, ur baby will do just as well on formula xxx

I was the same with Sam. They were so badly damaged an I just wanted to cry feeding him. The midwife and hv checked his latch which was fine but nobody actually noticed that he was slightly tongue tied until about 4 months later - not badly enough for them to have done anything about it but would have been nice to know why I was in pain. Lansinoh is amazing stuff for stopping cracked nipples getting worse. You need to sit on it to warm it up while you feed or it's impossible to get it out of the tube but I used to put a big blob on after every feed and it stopped them drying out and sticking to breast pads.

It could be that his latch wasn't quite right at first but is now ok if you've had it looked at - in which case they should start getting better. Sorry for jumbled reply - on iPod and Tony's climbing on me x
