This morning, I took eldest LO to school as usual, Kayden always comes with us in his buggy, got home & we put all baby stuff away at night, seat/mat ect. So I took his jacket & hat off & went into his bedroom to get his mat, I put him in the corner of our corner suite...its the biggest part of the couch & there's no way he'd roll of or anything (safe in my eyes) he wasn't sitting upright straight but at an angle if that makes sense, so he couldn't topple, when I came back in, he hadn't moved but he looked lathargic, I thought his lips looked blue, but wasn't sure if it was the light, I picked him up, he was kinda gasping for breaths & i walked about with him (pacing while thinking) & he seemed to be ok & his breathing went back to normal, so I layed him down on his mat, he slept for a while then woke up, looked a bit strange again (like in a daze) his lips were defo blue again & he was gasping i picked him up & his head went floppy, eyes shutting. I phoned an ambulance immediately I cant even remember what they were saying to me, something about unlocking door (was unlocked anyway) then about 3 mins later 2 ambulances come screeching down the road & paramedics charging into my house.
I had screamed on OH who was sleeping, i've never seen him move so fast. Just as the ambulance crew got in OH picked up LO & LO was all smiles & thrashing about as normal so they came in & i was shaking like a leaf, couldn't speak, and I could see them speaking to me but I couldn't hear a thing (strange) OH was like...there's nothing up with him, he's fine, she's had him lying funny ect. I calmed a bit & explained everything, while they checked him, all absolutely fine, airway fine, lungs fine, heart fine ect ect. And he was lying there on the paramedics lap, laughing, smiling away & they're all going awwwww ect, i'm like OMG i need some oxygen myself, i'm gona pass out. Was told to sit down, they said think mums in more state than baby. They said he absolutely fine. They offered to take him to yorkhill (kids hosp) I said if you say he's ok, I take ur word for it. They said that sometimes when babies lie in a squashed up/sitting position their lungs can get crushed, or their airway gets blocked, esp if they've got a wee chubby neck like kayden.
Turns out the mat he'd been sleeping on....it had a blanket down on top of it, coz we have cold floors & the blanket was un-even, which probs caused it to happen again (because he wasn't lying straight flat & his lower body ever so slightly higher than top part).
So.......it turns out i'm a bad mummy I was irresponsible & didn't put LO down on a flat surface on 2 occasions & god knows the consequences if I hadn't noticed. OH made sure I knew how much of a shit mum I was after they all left, he said he couldn't believe i'd put LO on the sofa like that, & said all sorts of horrible things. He was raging coz he got such a fright.
Anyway, that was it. They asked me about medical probs, he's never had anything wrong, but I forgot to tell them he had cord wrapped round his neck twice during birth.
Ugh, i'm such a bad mummy & i'm so upset. Not looking for any sympathy for me, only my poor baby who suffered at my hands
