Well, I saw a locum doctor yesterday at my local surgery about my incredibly itchy rash that covers my body. I told him I am almost 10 weeks pregnant and when he offered me a choice of two creams I made sure I asked him if they were safe for use in pregnancy. He said yes. So, I got home and put some on my arm as it was driving me INSANE - as I rubbed it in I picked up the box and read the side where it said 'not recommended in pregnancy' - so I did an internet search and sure enough they all said this plus 'especially in the first 12 weeks'. What a f*ckwit!
Today I phoned my surgery and explained to the receptionist that I needed to speak to a doctor, sure enough my regular doctor said she would look it up and ring me back. The doc actually called the medicine management team in the pharmacy at the hospital and they said not to use it in pregnancy too - especially in the first 12 weeks.
I think Ive been struck by another crap GP - why do I always get them?! Luckily the hospital gave my doc the name of a cream for itching in pregnancy and she has written the prescription for me.
What id I had smothered myself in that cream and not read the box? So many questions like what if it had harmed by developing baby? I cant believe it. You really have to double check everything, I never take a GP's word 100%, I always look into it, especially medications. :wall2:

RakRak when I get my prescription I will let you know the name and then perhaps your GO will give you some too to help your itching xx

Oh God.. It would drive you mad wouldn't it.. I'm glad you picked the box up hun.. Bloody doctors :wall: Have you made a complaint?

No I havent but I told my GP the name of the doctor and by the sound of her voice I think she will be having words. I just think its really poor practice

What a joke!! Its so irresponsible of the doctor. I'm glad you have now got some safe cream to ease your itch xx

Such a good job you looked before slathering it on! Eejits!

I know - I was so tempted to strip off and cover myself, I was so relieved to finally have a solution to the terrible itching only to be cheated out of it!

how stupid! Glad you were responsible enough to look on the box! xx

I find it hard that a dr can make this sort of mistake, really not acceptable. Hope your itch is sorted soon.

Isnt it terrible? So many people put their complete faith in their doctor, its so not fair that they can just make these mistakes. It would have been so easy to look it up, next time if Im not sure I will ask them to check in front of me.

I'd have been cross about that  Glad you checked hun xx

Next time I see a locum I will request to see qualifications and two references!

What a PAIN (in more ways than one ) It's doctors like that that give GPs a bad name :( So pleased you looked and that you have a new cream now that IS safe to use in pregnancy...what an eejit. Grrr.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a doc prescribe me a penicillin based antibiotic...when I had advised them that I was allergic to penicillin. I ended up taking the stupid pills, got really sick, and it was my hubby that said "But this is a penicillin!!" which saw me back getting a new prescription from another doc. EEJITS!

 Hope you're feeling better Rosie's mummy! xxx

I have to try and get my prescription tomorrow, hope the roads clear a little enough to drive there as its about 3 miles away. I cannot wait to get the cream, even though the itching has eased I still get flurries of bumps that make me want to take my skin off.

If something had happened to your baby as a result of that his career wouldbe over and he'd be up in court! What a fool, glad you managed to read the box and keep your baby safe. He shouldntbe allowed to write prescriptions. I think if I get prescribed anything I will be double checking with the pharmacist.

How frustrating to literally be stripping off as you closed the front door only to be robbed of that pleasure by someone's incompetency! Especially as you doubled checked when given the prescription in the first place. I bet they heard the language in russia!

Hope you get some relief soon!

that is dreadful, hope u feel better soon

I'm allergic to penicillin and my GP has been seeing me since i was born and he still prescribes it me everytime. I hate GP's. Glad you checked and have the right one now :)
