...I've heard sooo many different tips as I've gone along about different teas, creams and supplements to take to help which contractions, delivery or recovery & healing afterwards.

I can remember someone mentioning taking arnica tablets daily a few weeks before the birth, whether youre having c-section or vaginal birth, but I cant remember the others.

Thought Id start a thread for people to add their tips, tricks, lotions & potions.
I intend to try them all when the time comes!!!:)

good idea for a thread :)

raspberry leaf tea is ment to be good for ur uterus, as is evening primrose oil. my mw said i could take them after 36 wks. ive read up on them and alot of people have said its helped with a quicker labour. so fingers crossed on that one

not heard of any lol sorry.
although im guna try and grin and bare it an trying pursude myself that child birth is not as bad as expected lol x

Fresh pineapple is apparently meant to help too, I ate loads of the stuff in the weeks leading up to having my little boy and i had a very quick labour! I was aware of this though so I really dont know whether it is pure coincedence!

I used raspberry leaf tea tablets from 32 wks, evening primrose oil orally from 34 and internally from 36wks.

Here's some info on both :)

Evening Primrose Oil and Red Raspberry Leaf Tea

Neither will actually induce labor. While some lay midwives will argue that statement about the Evening Primrose, which is the reason it is not recommended until 36 weeks or "full term", almost all sources with experience agree that it does nothing that the body was not ready to do on its own. I will repeat this at the end of this section, to make sure you understand this, as there is a lot of confusion and misconception surrounding these two substances.

Evening primrose oil is an excellent source of prostaglandins, which we already determined readies your cervix for labor. It can be taken orally as soon as 34 weeks, and can be applied directly to the cervix at full term (36 weeks). The general recommendation is two 500mg capsules per day until week 38, at which time you increase to 3-4 per day. The entire capsule can be inserted vaginally (inserted just before bed, it will dissolve before the first time you wake to use the bathroom), or you can use the oil on your fingers for your perineal massage, then also rub on your cervix (assuming you can reach it). Applying directly to the cervix is optimal, but the beneficial ingredients are absorbed through the external skin or the stomach also.

Red raspberry leaf tea is a uterine tonic used by Native Americans for thousands of years. It tones your uterus by helping to "focus" your Braxton Hicks contractions. Think of its job as helping your uterus do more effective exercising while you are pregnant. It does not "cause" contractions and can be safely used throughout pregnancy. It is contraindicated for those having complications "just in case", however, by most doctors who do not understand its use. Many women safely use it from the moment they learn they are pregnant at six weeks until months after delivery. (It helps to tone the uterus after delivery as well, shrinking it back to size more quickly and reducing bleeding.)

Again, neither of these actually causes labor to start!

sex!!! sperm is great for the cervix, just stay on your back for half an hour afterwards ;)

ive been taking evening primrose capsules orally and id read about using internally. im just wondering though, what you use to do it internally. or am i asking a daft question.

ignore that, i just read that information that was put up lol

Put them up your flu like a tampon only get it right up as close to the cervix as poss. It DEFINITELY softened mine with my last two :)

:rotfl: flu!

Might be fun trying to reach that far in a couple of weeks hehe

It's not easy but if you sit on the loo to do it like using a tampon you can get a decent angle....

The pineapple thing apparently you have to have like 7 whole pineaples for it to work, also people say the pineapple juice is better. I was thinking of trying the reasberry leaf tea or something but tbh i think ill be sticking to curry and sex lol x

i am certainly NOT having any curry before going into labour, you often poo when in labour and a runny curry poo is not something i want to have to deal with frankly... (or make anyone else deal with)

I had a curry before i had my daughter and i didnt poo lol. u usually poo before you give birth tho but its usually loose anyway

not at all glam really is it?

Lol midwifes are trained to just wipe it away and not say anything about it tho thats what my midwife told me when i had my daughter and it made me feel more at ease. Its not like you can stop it happening x

At the end of the day, when youre giving birth, dont think glamorous...think amazonian strong woman, lioness like in your womanly power...and yes we poo, thats okay!
