Hi guys, I'm expecting a little one in July. Only in my early first trimester...
Any other mums out there feeling confused about all these scans, appointments etc that everyone's talking about on the groups!
It would be great to have a little thread where we can go through it all together! xxx

Hey and congratulations Janey :)

I am too a first time mummy and due in July, I think I am around 5 weeks but the doc wasnt 100% as i havent had a period since coming off the pill.

I agree with you and I still cant get it in my head that I'm pregnant even thou I have done 2 tests lol!!

Yes so much! There doesn’t seem to be anything that tells you about the overall process... I had my booking in appointment today and the midwife confused me so much!

Great idea for a thread!

I'm also a first time mum. It's been a few weeks now since I found out and it still hasn't sunk in properly and calling myself a mum-to-be or pregnant still seems strange. I think I'm roughly 7 weeks, though also didn't have a period since coming off my pill so it's an estimate.

I have found all the information out there pretty overwhelming. There seems to be so much to get to grips with.

I am curious whether things are the same all over the UK. Did you also all get a pamphlet sent to you when arranging your first scan and midwife appointment called 'You're Pregnant'?
That had some information but I didn't feel it was all that clear because it lists a bunch of scans, some of which are clearly optional.

Anyway, really good idea to have a thread like this, I think. Hi to all fellow firsttimers! :)

All I can say ladies as doing this for the 2nd time around is if in doubt ask questions. The only appointments you should have is a booking appointment with the midwife and then your 12 week scan. Some areas do booking in bloods before which is just routine of blood group, in levels etc nothing to worry about and your midwife should go through them if any concerns.
I have used this forum twice now and alot of great information xx

What Loula said. You will see your midwife between week 8-10 (tho this may be different in different areas, so best call your GP practice now). Unless you are cramping and bleeding (touch wood non of us will!) you will get your 12 weeks scan between weeks 11-14. Some areas you self-book, and in others your midwife will sort this out for you, ask about this when you are calling you GP practice for the booking in appointment with midwife xx

Hi! Congrats to all. Another first-time mum here and expecting my little one in July as well.

This is still a pretty surreal experience for me at the moment. I met with the midwife today for the first time. I live in Spain so things are a bit different here - I'm only 5+3 and had a midwife appointment already - so a lot of the UK appointments and things seem confusing to me too. I came home from today's appointment with four new appointment dates (flu jab, bloods, dentist, first scan) so feel like I'm drowning in paper and information!

JaneyJan, did I see on another thread that your sister is pregnant too? If so you'll have a great source of help and information there :)

Lol I don't know how much help she'll be... She's completely debilitated with hyperemesis.... She was admitted to hospital day before yesterday for IV fluids etc. She's been vomiting anywhere from 5-10 times a day! It started around where I am... So we seem to be having different experiences but yes, I will have a good resource in other ways!

Really?! Why? I'm not going to have my booking appointment until 5th of December... Can't wait

No I didn't get one! But I arranged my appointment over the telephone. It's on 5th September. I'm probably further behind than you at around 6 week mark somewhere...yay first time thread! Xxx

It's still quite surreal. Except I've got quite a lot of cramps now and REALLY sore boobs...

I got this sheet at my booking appointment. If you open the pics in a new tab you should be able to see them fine.

It lists the weeks, scans, appointments and what is done at each. It's a general guide and your weeks might be a little different but not by much as it's an NHS sheet :)

I don't know if you'll find it helpful or not but I had the pics on my phone so thought I'd post them incase

She just didn’t really explain anything and said I probably wouldn’t see her again - I think because I’m high risk I get seen by a consultant not a midwife... but she didn’t tell me any of the things I shouldn’t be doing or what to expect in pregnancy. But she did try to talk me out of taking my multi vitamin because she said it would cause more harm than good! Can’t see how given I’m vegan and diabetic so likely to be deficient in things... and I ticked on the form I have anxiety but she didn’t even ask me about it,

Really?! That sounds terrible... I hope your consultant is better.

Anyone else having really vivid dreams? I'm having them every time I sleep, but last night they were awful nightmares! Also my cramps are absolutely horrible. They're so bad I end up doubled over with waves of nausea. Especially at night. Not feeling too sick yet.

I had that the first couple of weeks before I found out I was pregnant but not recently, at the moment I’m asleep within 2 mins of head hitting the pillow and then out for the count most of the night but no dreams!

I’m a first time mum, not had any early scans yet but my first one is this Thursday - very very nervous!

I had some crazy dreams at about 4/5 weeks. One where I threw my oh out and left him because he shook my fishtank and killed all the fish. Don't have a fishtank but in my dream I was sobbing over them and hated him. Very dramatic. Another being hunted by the FBI. Very real and vivid. Think they're easing off now though. Maybe it's the hormones? Xx
