FAO ANYONE who has ever had a bank charge

Obviously they said in the letter that it isnt their fault

But who cares, I got my money back! :D

I dunno whether to pay off my overdraft with it and close the account or keep the account but stay well out of my overdraft, that way they cant charge me

They also refunded £75 worth of charges directly into my bank account today so I think they messed up somewhere, altogether they've given me £280 back :shhh:

im really pleased for you i hope the info i gave you helped :cheer:

i phoned my bank (alliance and leicester) today and asked them for my bank statements since september 2002 when i took out the account.
The woman told me that there is a charge of £5 per statement and there are 48 statements.
Is this about right? Or are they trying to con me?

thankyou in anticipation for your replies.

trying to con you.

Standard charge is £5 per statement but a maximum they can charge you is £10.

If they try to 'rob' this amount of money from you, tell them you'll take them to the banking ombudsman!

It sounds like they are using the data storage excuse the same as Barclays tried. I'll look into it.

Also..If the charge is more than £10 and you are unhappy to pay it, there is the option of submitting a Data Protection Act (DPA) disclosure request ...

Budge, I would recommend you WRITE to them. The letter templates are on the first page of this thread. The woman is WRONG. No one else I have looked at with A&L has been told this. (it would be a con anyway, and there would be a way around it)

ive just been charged 80 for direct debits bouncing one of them shouldnt have come out untill the 8th and i have previously been charged twice before of about 100 could i claim all this back cause i rang them and they said i have breeched my contract and i have to pay.

im fed up i cried on the phone even asked if they could take the charges out seperatley and he said no!

they charge £39 for what??

Yeah, you can claim all that back.

You need to work out how much you've been charged (use your bank statements for this - or if you have internet banking you should be able to search back through them online).

Make a note of the dates of each charge and the amount charged and what for:

21.01.07 Exceeded Overdraf Charge £39.00
21.01.07 Unpaid DD Charge £39.00
etc,

then write a letter to the bank, claiming them all back with your breakdown of charges enclosed. These charges are unlawful because they do not truly reflect what it costs them to notify you that you have gone over your overdraft or whatever. :shakehead:

Read through this topic and find the letter templates and the links that can help you.

Be prepared, as they won't give you the money back after your first letter, so you have to go back to them again, and demand payment (either by letter or by court proceedings.....if you start a court claim, you can claim the cost of that back too).

Good Luck

cool thanks i do have online banking and i will take note and write a letter the bloke on the phone really annoyed me as he was so unforgiving well i wont let it rest now.
thanks for your advice

Lots of luck with it.....keep us updated with how you get on

what if the bank closed the account because we where so overdrawn and we are now slowly paying it back?

(the fact we where overdrawn was due the ruddy charges can i add!!)

You can still claim on closed bank accounts......the charges are unlawful, so put in a claim!

right, off to type up a letter then :)
