I've had a few cases of Bacterial Vaginosis. It's really getting me down now so will request some further support from Gp to manage this. I have a coil not a copper one just wondering if anyone has had any increases in this from having the coil ? I can't see any other reasonable explanation.

Thanks xx

I haven't had BV but after first having my copper coil put in I had recurring thrush. I just couldn't get rid of it. I'd had it twice in my life before then but this was like permanent. Eventually my gp gave me a "maintinence programme" of antibiotics where I took a pill every 3 days for 12 days then one pill every week for 12 weeks.

It cleared up really quick and I never got it again

Hopefully you can get something similar, I understand how frustrating it is

Have you had swabs to check it actually is bv? I've had it and it's really not nice so I sympathise. I find washing with the tiniest amount of baby soap helps, but that's more a maintenance tip rather than what to do during an outbreak. Sorry never had the coil, so not sure but sounds likely that it is the culprit xx

I had one swab which confirmed it I believe then the same symptoms so just managed to get another course of antibiotics over the phone. So going to ask to be swabbed again and go from there :( Thanks for your help xx

I have had BV a few times I think it can reoccur again at different times. I sometimes get it if I change my shower gel to something too perfumed so tend to stick to the same kind. I now know the symptoms really. Its just some people can be more prone to it. I think and is quite common. There is now a treatment that you can buy for it over the counter to save getting antibiotics. I havent had thefoil but I woukd imagine that could effect it or bring it on.

Aw I had it during pregnancy and its horrendous. Feel your pain :-(

I got a case of thrush when I had my mirena coil... Then got some AB's then it just got flipping worse and it kept coming on and off until I had it removed.. Back then I had heard that basically it's can't all clear off and out because of an object blocking into the uterus.. Now I'm no doctor but it's the most logical explanation as after I had the coil removed I didn't have thrush as bas as with the coil and not as frequent.. If it even happened.. But that's just my experience, it's so different for everybody...

Thing is though, anti biotics can give you thrush and then you might loop in circles.. I used to have irritation down there with the coil and thrush meds used to make it worse but it could go from being one thing into the other.. I think I ended up using lube because it dried out too much and used something like sudocreme or vaseline on the outside to contain the itch (that was when thrush cream made it worse because my GP always assumes its thrush...)

I'm getting married in Feb and baby number two will be planned after then so need to hold out on the coil a bit longer. My Gp is really good and I just requested a swab and another course of antibiotics over the phone and they did all that. The swab will hopefully confirm it. The nurse wasn't too sure on why it keeps coming back. I've done some reading about it all and will try with a less perfumed shower gel / bubble bath, may try some probiotic yogurts, cotton knickers !! Anything to stop the embarrassment of it coming back. Thanks for all ur answers xxxx
