We’ve been considering donor eggs as a last resort after 3 failed ivf cycles and I’ve got a few queries so thought an Egg Donation thread might be helpful!

Our consultant said last time that donor eggs would give us a much better chance of becoming pregnant as the egg would be much younger, but if 11/13 of my eggs fertilised, doesn’t that mean that they were good quality? They were also top quality at Day 3 and we had a 4BB, a 2BB and a 2BC embryo for transfer but none implanted. I wonder if a young egg would become a 4AA embryo and keep developing to implant successfully?

After speaking to Marisa Peer she recommended trying again with my own eggs because donation is something I shouldn’t have to consider until my late 40’s! But we don’t want to keep trying and failing.

We are going to see the consultant again this week and see what he suggests, but we don’t want to go for round 4 unless he can suggest something different.

Has anyone else had any donor cycles or have any advice?

I don't have any advice but I will be watching this thread with interest as egg donation may be needed for us too in the future. Hopefully your consultant will give you some indication on the best way to go forward xx

I have done 2 tandem cycles and I'm only 32 (plus 2 own egg)! Also, you can have top quality blastos but there be something chromosome wrongs with the embyro, hence PGD would look at this.
What has been your % fertilisation rate, no at day 3 and day 5?
Have you always used the short protocol or mixture of long and short? Always the same stimm meds?
Have you had a hysteroscopy?
Anything I can help with in relation to donor I will, just ask x

85% fertilisation last time, 79% the time before, less the first time as we had half icsi. The last time we still had all 11embryos at day 3, the majority were top quality apparently, but only 3 good blastocysts left on day 5.

Always had the long protocol, stim meds have been different. I had a hysteroscopy at the same time as my laparoscopy and all was fine!

Please can I subscribe to this thread with being interested in donating eggs would like lots of info from all sides lol :)

Your stats are really good, maybe this time ask if they would try the short protocol (no down regging), if not why? Also could try a freeze all cycle, then put them back on a natural cycle so you body isn't under all the pressure of the Stimms, egg collection etc (this is my next move).

Sounds interesting. What is the advantage of a short protocol?

My understanding of it (but I could be wrong) is you get fewer eggs but better quality (also recommended for people with PCOS to try and prevent over stimulation), I'm sure it is much more technical and medical then that tho lol!

I just had some news! Got an email from our local clinic where we’ve been on the egg donor list for 8 months, that they have a possible donor!
She sounds just like me in appearance with the same colour hair, eyes, skin, similar build and almost the same height! She has similar hobbies, we have similar jobs and she needs IVF as she is in a same sex relationship. Sounds amazing! I have replied asking when she is having IVF. I wasn’t expecting any news like this as I’d given up hope with this clinic and was expecting to make a decision about where to go overseas via the London clinic. I mustn’t get my hopes up but it does sound good, and what lovely news just before Christmas!

Ive been reading blue flower, cant offer any advice but I hope you get your take home baby soon..

What a fab email before Christmas, youv obvs been on the good list this year :p

xxxx

That's amazing news blueflower. I hope you hear back soon xx

Fantastic news, ask if there is any other reason than same sex relationship also ask her age, weight etc. my friend was able to be a egg donor in UK when they knew her eggs wasn't very good. Xx

Ok will do, she is slim, 5ft 5 and sporty so I imagine she is a healthy weight. They might not be able to tell me her age but I'll try, she would have to be under 35. I will ask if its her 1st IVF which might give some indication of her egg quality. Anything else I should ask?

Ask the quantity of eggs they would expect to get from her as you will get half? If you produces under X amount of eggs of they are not good quality would you still be paying for the cycle? How will they sync you to her cycle? What is the cost to you?

I'll keep thinking xxx

me personally have no experience with de, but I hope you will find this de guide helpful- eggdonationfriends com/egg-donation-guide/
