Quick question for all you lovely ladies who have been through IVF ... How many days off work have you taken for egg collection?

Is going in the following day a no no?

Many thanks xx

I would not go into work after egg collection Hun x I was v sore for 5 days but that was just because I had mild OVHSS xx I would book the day after off and see how u r xx when is it? Good luck

Thanks for the reply, I'm new to all this.
I'm currently on the pill and start stims in 2 weeks.

I suddenly realise I have a lot of unanswered questions xx

Next day is a definate day off and as loubalouba said just see how you feel. Everyone is different. I had my collection on the monday and was off the rest of the week as I was very sick from the sedation. Had I not been poorly though I would have had 2-3 days off due to soreness. Any other questions just ask xx

Thanks lovely.

How on earth did you keep it all quiet from work?
I've told my immediate boss but really don't want the rest of my team to know.

Think I've been in denial about the whole process to be honest xx

I took a week and then had transfer so took 2 weeks total cos that's what my colleague had. You definitely need a couple of days at least.
Just tell them its a medical procedure. If you don't give details they should realize its personal. It could be anything! What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

I work in a office, a very hectic and stressful office at that.

Been feeling really sick all day. Think the pill I'm on is not agreeing with me.
Might need to call the nurse tomorrow. When I was last on the pill (a number of years ago now) the pill I was on had a nationwide shortage and was prescribed another but that made me so I'll s had to change again.
Not sure I can cope with this for another 2 weeks.

Not really sure what they'll do though xx

Hi Hun
I had egg collection on a Monday- was due to go back to work on the Wednesday but I was so bloated and sore that I ended up in hospital. I then didn't go back to work until a day after transfer.
I think everyone is different- some people recover quicker than others. We had 18 eggs collected in total but my ovaries were huge as I had a total of 42 follicles! X

Oh my gosh hun, hope you're ok?
Keeping everything crossed for you xx

I told my workplace what I was doing. They were really good and no-one else found out that I hadnt told. But if your not comfortable with telling them I would just say its "womans things" or like blueflower said dont actually say what it is your going in for and they should assume that its private x

I took the egg collection day off work, was back in the next day each time. I guess it was easier for me not to tell anybody at work as they were all men!

I had quite a bit of bleeding after collection (I was a bit unusual in this respect though) and felt very bloated and a bit sore. I didn't go into work between collection and transfer, it's a very emotional time as well waiting for the call from the embryologist to tell you how your embies are doing and of course you don't know when transfer will be, it's a case of seeing how each day goes. I would prepare yourself that you might not feel up to going in until after transfer xx

Thanks for all the replies ladies.

Will just have to see how things go and how I'm feeling xx

This thread has also been useful to me so thank you (although I have been told to definitely take the day after off then see how I feel). I am thinking how to tell work and whether to just be completely honest with them.

I decided to be honest and tell all to my boss.
I've had a lot of stomach and gynaecology probs previously but though beeing honest for my situation was the best way forward.

It's a little harder for me as I also work with my hubby so we've decided that he prob won't attend all my scans as too many people in the office will talk and ask questions.

It was a difficult decision but I honestly feel better for her knowing.

Have you started treatment? xx

Partners don't usually attend the tracking scans anyway as you need about 4 in total and blood tests so its at least an hour and a half out of work. I usually email my DH after each nurse appt with a progress report! He just cones to the consultations, egg collection of course and embryo transfer.

I don't drive so it's really awkward to get there without DH. I tend to rely on my parents if he can't come (they know about it). We have had IUI and I'm just waiting the endometrial scratch now so we can start IVF the cycle after next (only get one go on the NHS here so it kind of feels like our last shot). X

I had suspected ohss- luckily everything was ok and i was just very sore and bloated- was let out the next day and I had my transfer a few days later.

I hope your IVF cycle goes well and you get your much awaited bfp x

I was back in next day the first time and was fine physically.
The second time I had a few days off just cos I had taken whole week I expected ec to be on just in case and it was a lot less stressful.
