Donating Breastmilk to SCBU *blinkies added 1st post*

we can get a blinkie made by one of our resident geeks, erm I mean techies.

My bottles and info turned up today! Got blood test booked and and i'm ready to go! So impressed with myself!

I would love to do this when baby is born and I started looking the other day. The nearest to me is Glasgow but that's about 100 miles away. Does anyone have any idea about how far they will travel?

I'm 50 miles from my nearest, so i have to deliver it myself as i'm outside the area. No harm in giving them a ring and asking.

Glasgow is about 75 miles away from me. When I rang up they only collected within the Greater Glasgow area.

I couldn't afford the time or money to deliver it myself (and they didn't offer this as an option) but is that an option for you?

I spoke to the local coordinator and there are apparently 'satellite' collections happen that travel around the country. Ask your local hospital and if they dont know about it i can give you the name of the lady that deals with Southampton milk bank.

Anyone make me a blinkie thingy?

I have filled up my 8 bottles in 4 days and have had to order more. I told her i had a LOT of milk and she didnt give me more than 8, i think she may well up it a bit now!! hehe

Just call me Daisy..... :rotfl:

They have just got in touch with me, all i need to do now is wait for my bottles to come and to have a blood test :D

My bottles came today yay :cheer:

She mentioned about a blood test but didnt say who would have to organise it. Will they sort it out. Does anyone know?

I got sent a form through the post. It just had written on what they're testing for. I had to book my own, which is for 2 weeks time. And a note said to ask for results to be forwarded to them. If you have nothing like that then just give them a quick call back!

I got my bottles and a checklist on suitability and a leaflet on donating but no mention on how to go about the blood test. Will give them a bell i think :)

I got my blood test tube and paperwork when they dropped off the bottles. I had it done at the local hospital, it checks for hepatitis B&C, syphalis (SP) and HIV the results go straight back to them.

I have filled all my bottles already, i have got far too much milk!!! I am expressing 6oz after feeding Morgan at the moment but am hoping to start filling two 5oz bottles a day, one to freeze for Morgan and one to donate. :cheer: I am just glad to be doing something with all the milk i dont need! Its a good cause and so much better than throwing it away!

Here's some of the first batch woohoo....

How long does it normally take for them to sort it all out? I'd love to do it, but Oliver is rapidly approaching 6 months.. I'll ring them tomorrow, but I'm worried I've missed the opportunity now.

As soon as i had spoken to the hospital they put the bottles in the post that day and i received them the next day :D
Just give them a ring see what they say.

i cant do it now think im almost dried up lol. but its a lovely idea good on you  :cheer:

I phoned them and two days later i was ready to go, they were very quick.

Oh and you can drink alcohol while you are doing it too, i dont anyway but good to know if you wanted one you could. :cheer:

you should register with them before baby is 4 months so they can get enough milk from you, as they only collect until your baby is 6months. I just made it.

Yeah, I left it too late :( but if I have another I'll definitely get in touch with them straight away!

Might be worth a call anyway as my hospital only accept if you start before LO is 6 months (not 4 months) but you can carry on as long as you like. :cheer:

My hospital (Birmingham) said that they will only accept milk up to six months, so i will be donating for 3 months
