I think I may want to do this, has anyone ever done it?
I've been reading up

http://www.ukamb.org/donor.htm

And will give Birmingham women's hospital a ring later.
I will need to buy a steriliser etc, but I'd love to do it.

Anyone else fancy starting up? we could all do it LOL

i did it urchin. They only really want colostrum though

the woman said they'd need me on the phone, she hasn't got back to me yet but she said it might take a while cos she needed to check the hayfever tablets I have been prescribed.

Urchin,I didn't know you were thinking of this, I could have brought round info for you. I found out about it through my local baby cafe. They accept milk up to your baby being 6 months. I am waiting for my bottles to arrive (I have a pump you can borrow if you want, let me know). The only thing is because it goes to premies, there goes my occasional glass of wine for a while :(

she asked if I drank and told me 1-2 units occasionally would be fine.

Brum women's hospital. Though because of Cally's age they are going to do the blood test later, and collect it in one go from me (am only planning on expressing once a day). Though if its no good for them - am going to ask for it all back :rotfl:

wow they're collecting from that far away? They must really need milk!
So many sick babies are born there though

My nearest is Cambridge which is 50 miles. Not sure if they'll do it, but gonna give them a call tomorrow anyway.

Its a shame more aren't on the scheme- I think Brum is my nearest but its miles away :(

I have rung them today, got the answering machine so left them a message to call me back :)

I just called Cambridge. It's my nearest but 50 miles away. She said it was too far to do a collection but if i wish i can deliver. I'm all for that. Get a good supply and take it. I really wanna do my bit so now waiting for my information pack, bottles and blood test form.

This is a fab idea but theres nothing near me as usual.

I posted in the PND section about this. My stuff is arriving tomorrow, all you need is a blood test to check for diseases then yay off we go! They dont just take colostrum at all, they need milk as well. Luckily i am 5 mins from Princess Anne in Southampton which run a milk bank. My son was offered it in SCBU which is why i want to do it to thank them for looking after him.
Did you know prem babies can start on as little as 1ml per hour so 1oz can last a really prem baby up to 1 and a half days, incredible isn't it!
You can donate as much or as little as you like. Most people donate 1-3 oz a day.

Good luck to anyone thinking of doing it. They come and collect it from your house too so it couldnt be easier!

Well done Kelly and beanie and Urchin and anyone else starting to donate.

I'd really have love to have done this :( - I think its a shame there are so many of us so keen and not enough banks/money to utilise this. I may write to someone - suggestions? MP/MSP (in Scotland) or NHS Hospital Trust?

I would say write to both.

you going to have to make another cutiepie then so you can also donate ;)

There's nothing near me :( I would have given it a go otherwise.
Shame there aren't more hospitals taking part.

Ok cool well done guys, so who's smart enough to find me a breastmilk and blood donor blinkie? I cant find one anywhere. If we all put them on your signatures it may spread the word a bit more! :cheer: I think a lot of people dont even know that you can donate milk! I certainly didnt until Morgan was born!

Also write to everybody it really is stupid that more hospital dont have a mik bank although they do transport it to all hospitals with a neonatal unit.

Anyone wanting more info should visit
