I am wanting to get back to a hobby I was doing before I had my last baby. but I can't seem to allow myself the time.....and wondered should I expect to be able to do it:wall2:

Does anyone on here have a hobby or something they do that is just for them, not work, home, baby, child, hubby related?

I work 7am-5 or 6pm mon-fri and as lo is a poor sleeper sometimes I go to bed early. So I have to cram everything else into weekend and evenings. but if I was super organised I may be able to spare myself 1-2 hours a week?

Hi

I didn't have a hobby until last May when I decided enough was enough all I did was work housework and run after Elise which dont get me wrong I absoluytely love but I fgelt I had no other purpose so I joined the pipeband and have learnt to play the snare drum ands been out with them for the first time end February so within the space of a year I have taken up a hobby and learnt it too

I know what you mean about cramming everything in as the weekend is the only days I get off (hubby works shiofts so has rest days through the week) I like to not do housework all weekend xx

I go to agility with my dog on a Monday evening and take obedience classes on a Wednesday evening. Some weekends I go away to competitions but sometimes Cam comes with me to those, especially if they are both days of the weekend.

I did it before my lo arrived and went back to it when he was three weeks old.

As and when we have number two I'll have to see how much time I have for it.

What sort of thing were you thinking? Do you have any particular interests?

XX

I used to make all sorts of things and bake and exercise, but I don't do any of it now. I keep thinking, it will only be a couple of years til I get this time back, but then I will probably be all nostalgic missing my babies as they will be growing up! Arg!

I used to horse ride and have horses since in was 6 (15 years!) I stopped to move house 2 years ago and then fell pregnant last year so couldn't have the horses or ride. In the week I'm always looking after Alfie or house cleaning and my OH is a farmer so it's hard to get an hour to go and ride as we need someone to have Alfie and 9 times out of 10 the OHis working 6/7 days a week. And if we aren't here doing jobs then we have to see family.

We've got a dog so I try to get out and walk her if she's not at work on the farm. I used to bake too it that's stopped. It's just finding time!

I think it's possible, but might be easier if you choose a hobby that doesn't require you to do it at a specific time. I do a bit of card making sometimes, but this can be done at any time if the lo is having a good sleep and if I don't feel too tired. I would find it more challenging to go to a class at a specific time I think.

As I said I am a childminder so work from 7am until 5 or 6pm then I still have my own 3 children even after the minded ones have gone home -mine are 1, 5 and 9! So not only have I paperwork from childminding to keep on track, I have bathing and putting to bed my lo, homework with them, housework, tidying the place, washing, ironing....

I must be mad for contemplating me time, but I really think I need some. I do get to veg and watch casualty or holby sometimes. But before I had my last baby I was making reborn baby dolls. I was actually making a bit of extra income from it too, lol. I had time before and lo goes to bed at 6pm, so can't work out why I can't fit it in now.

I have a little idea... Swap ironing to some 'me' time :) is ironing necessary for you? I stopped doing it years ago and never missed it.

I knit in the evenings and play in an orchestra once a week (although I rarely find time to practice at home in between and missed half of the last term due to issues getting LO to sleep in time).

I love that someone else has said balls to ironing!

Back to the subject though........... I haven't had a hobby since I was 16, I've just worked (god I'm sad) but my oh has had loads and they've all stopped since we've had dd, so he's going to start a fitness/self defence course 2/3 times a week and I'm going to tag along and take part.

Maybe an idea is for some of the other ladies is to start a hobby with the oh, it'll be something to do together as a couple???

I like doing lots of craft type stuff- painting, drawing, candle making, crochet and i also love reading. Obviously not had much time for any of that atm though. My OH and I like to watch TV shows on netflix together, we can fit it in when Oscar is sleeping, we're watching Long Way Down now :)
I've also said sod ironing but our new washing machine creases everything so I might have to take it up again :( xxx

Actually, reading is a great hobby for mums - I do it while feeding at nights. And I also watch films. Currently I'm working my way through Oscar nominations of the last 10 years. I guess you can call it a hobby :) I also write in my diary while feeding - my handwriting looks terrible as I write in a funny position, but I don't care :)

I've danced since I was 3 and did until I was 20 weeks pregnant going twice a week and I also did a pregnancy yoga one night and a stretch and relax class another!

I went back to dancing when my lo was 2 months old. I go twice a week, one night I'm Home for bath time and the other night my husband does the bedtime routine. I did feel guilty especially when she would only settle for me and my oh would really struggle to settle her but you definitely need 'me time' even if it's half an hour to do something that isn't baby related

I do a lot of reading. But it's taken me some time to get back into reading as much as I would like and I can see it going out the window for a while again when our second is born next month.

I do find with making time for myself in general, it does come at the expense of something else. Like house work or spending time with OH and LO. But it's all to easy to put everything and everyone else first and lose sight of yourself. I've been there and it's a miserable place.

I've always refused to iron OHs clothes since we moved in together and I also don't do my son's. Most of what he wears is cotton tops and joggers anyway that can be put back into shape while drying. I tend to only do house work one day a week and make sure that OH also does his fair share around the house. If you both want time to relax I've found you also have to work as a team with the house.

I usually manage 15-20 mins reading a night before bed. I go to pilates once a week to help with my back - this started off baby-related as it's my son's weight that caused my back to play up, but I enjoy the hour of me time it gives. I knit too, but I guess because I'm knitting something for my daughter it doesn't really count as non-baby related!!!

I was uber sporty before having the LO, and apart from running, gym, yoga, etc, I was (still am) in a boat paddling team. It hurt me badly to have to stop doing that for quite a few months, but I have managed to slowly return to training and I can just about squeeze 2 hours on Saturdays, plus go running or gym some other day (usually Sundays), with the help of my OH... I leave expressed breast milk and my OH will give him a bottle if needed. It works and it does wonders for my sanity!!

You do have to be disciplined, strong minded (don't think it twice or you'll never do it!) and organised... Good luck!

I don't iron a thing except my husband's work shirts. That is what the tumble dryer is for :) everything comes out crease free......

I was studying for my Masters part time but have taken the year out while on Mat leave but with another one on the way I can't see it happening for a while now! Sewing is my favourite hobby but I've only found time to do it a little bit and only in the last few months. When this little one arrives I think I'll be saying goodbye to my sewing machine for a long while! Also love running but that has fallen by the wayside...... Xxxx

Aw I've been saying the same thing to myself Angela. I NEED some me time. Now it's summer coming I'm defo going to start back exercising, it's just setting the time aside and sticking to it!

I only have the one who's 8 days old but i'm lucky if I get to have a shower :| he has colic so it's rare that he can be out of my arms without screaming, OH gets no sleep before work 'cos he up all night with us as well, hope this settles down soon 'cos it's not sustainable!
Glad to hear it's not just me that gets no time to do anything though have been wondering what I've been doing wrong! xo
