Dental Treatment.

Hi girlies!

I just discovered a small hole in my tooth whilst eating chocolate. OUCH!

Are we allowed Dental Treatment whilst being pregnant!? I wasn't sure if we were allowed or not?!

Yes you are and I think you get free NHS dental care whilst pregnant??? xx

I do have my exemption form I need to send off! Must do that!

Are we even allowed fillings and that?! Thought it would be to traumatic for baby as I would be stressed out about it as I HATE dentist!

You get it free HOWEVER I dont think they like to do things like filings when you are pregnant because it'll involve medication (numbing process) I might be wrong though

P.s you need one of them maternity nhs cards to prove you are pregnant. Hopefully you got one on your first midwife app. I gave the form to my doctors and got the card about a week later x

I think it's until your baby is a year old, so if you can hold on get it done when baby is born!

I have a hole 2.... in my left tooth... I think a toffee must have stolen my last filling.... I dont have a maternity card or what not... i have a MAT1 form to prove im pregnant... plus with a bump how can they say no... Lol... they might fill i with a temp filling because they dont use any numbing stuff... until u had the baby....

I am pretty sure that the free dental treatment is valid up to a year after LO is born, so you may get a temp filling then get proper filling after LO arrives. Reminds me I still have not got a card!?x

I haven't got one either!

But I phoned my dentist in Feb to arrange an appt and told the receptionist I'm pregnant and she just said 'oh I'll book u in with Dr Suitor then, he's the NHS dentist, no point in u paying when u can get it for free'
But I never made it to that appt as I was still being sick. I should really reschedule lol x

They still do most dental procedures i went to an emergancy dentist whilst pregnant and she numbed my mouth and put a temp filling in, now i have to go back and have root canal and a filling xx

I have had Hell with my teeth since my BFP and I have been the the dentist a few times!!

They won't X-Ray me but I am able to have treatment that involves local anesthetic as that is perfectly safe for use during pregnancy.

I am going to have a tooth removed soon, based on X-Ray taken before my BFP (I am waiting until after my 12 week scan though )

Best thing to do hun is speak to your dentist....

I'm a nervous wreck where it comes to dentists, Need to have 2 teeth out and a few fillings, my dentist reffered me to a specialist who deals with phobic people to have it done under general, took months for the refferal. Finally got an appt for Jan and then found out i was pregnant in Dec!, so they wont do it.

Got an appt with my normal dentist on the 3rd of may and think i'm going to just try and brave the fillings with a local if they will do it because otherwise i'm worried i will end up needing more by the time baby is actually here! Need to look into how i get the exemption card tho, might as well make the most of free treatment lol

Hi girls - your midwife should have given you a form to fill in to get an exemption card as you need to present this to get free treatment. I had to ask my midwife for mine as they forgot to give it to me. Sorry to gate crash x

I had a problem with bleeding gums, went to my dentist to get it checked and it was fine. And made me an appointment for after in due so I can go and get a good check up and any wee bits and bobs done I can when it's free might aswell make the most of it cxx

I think visits to the dentist are encouraged as being pregnant can cause increased risk of tooth decay and such in some women. I've been for a check up and have to go back at the end of the month for a little filling.

I have to say though, I'm one of those people who'll happily sit there and let the dentist do whatever he/she wants without getting nervous or stressed!!!

I went at xmas time and got told i needed to have a deep clean with a local anaesthetic, i declined the offer and said i would have it done after LO is born due to the stress it would put me under, if i needed treatment then id go ahead and have it xxx

My filling fell out about 2 weeks ago and I had it replaced with a temporary one . Obviously they can't do the silver one while you're preg. The numbing thing was no different, they still jabbed me in the face and made me dribble. And it's freeeeeee . Until baby's 1 i think . It's all safe.
