i have heard so much conflicting advice re changning a newborn. Some people said they used wipes right away whilst others used bottom wool and water. What did you use?

i started with cooled boiled water and cotton wool but after about 2 days when i got home from the hospital i switched to wipes! it was too much hassle tbh with cotton wool etc and i cant stand the feel of it lol. never had any problems with wipes, and just used bepanthen if he got a red sore bottom xx

I used wipes, tried cotton wool with paige but it was too faffy went straight to wipes with jake x

i think i'm one of the few that uses cotton wool pads and water!! use wipes when we are out though. she doesn't seem to bothered about either! i don't boil the water any more for her bottom, only in the mornings for a thorough top and tail as she doesn't get bathed everyday!

I use cotton wool and water at home and wipes out. I find wipes too wet with breast fed baby poo it just smears it everywhere but cotton wool soaks it up. We all have sensitive skin so might be something to bear in mind if you and your OH are sensitive.

I didn't change LOs first nappy as I was to weak. A nurse did it, and she used wipes. I didn't think twice about it tbh x

In hosp I used cotton wall and water. As soon as I got out I used wipes! Lol

I use cotton wool and water usually at home, though sometimes use the wipes if it's just wee, and wipes when out. DH always uses wipes, wee, poo, in or out.

Whilst in the hospital ( was in for a week) we used cotton wool pads and water but switched to johnsons fragnance free wipes and haven't had a problem xx

i used cotton wool and water till baby boy was around 2 months. my daughter got sore bum when i used wipes, so didnt want same with my son. i even carried my little water container around with me lol

I used cotton wool and water , i used this for ages and my daughter never ever had even a whiff of a sore bum , i also changed the nappy as soon as i detected 1 wee! . I think she was a good few months old before i switched to wipes. Its very fiddly though x

I hate wipes, I just end up smearing the poo everywhere. I use washable cotton wipes and water and love them, so much easier to use and never had a sore bum :)

We used wipes from the very first nappy. Never had any problems. xx

I used wipes at the start but made his bottom a bit sore/raw so switched to cotton wool and water, which is easier on him. Just use wipes when we're out

I've always just used wipes, we get on well with them, and touch wood, have only ever had a sore bum once, when we changed to Huggies when MIL bought a load. I only used them a few times as I could see we weren't going to get on with them!

MW's advice the cotton wool thing but I think it stems from years ago when baby wipes weren't so nice and soft!

I went straight to wipes last time , pampers sensitive are lovely and soft, wasn't too keen on huggies, then are quite rough

thanks guys just remembered i posted this thanks for your replies

I just used Huggies Pure wipes to start, then went on to any type from about 3 months. Cam has NEVER had any type of nappy rash x

I only use cotton wool at home, and wipes when we are out. I actually find cotton wool more convenient. And its supposed to be healthier. After cleaning him with cotton wool, I also wash his bottom in a bowl with warm water - it gets rid of the last bits of poo and he loves it :)
