We usually get my nephews hand me downs but this year James is the same size as nephew (he is a weeny 4 and James is a tall almost 3 year old)

I've got a red rain mac type thing but that is quite thin.

Looking for recommendations please. Preferably something he can get a lot of wear out of (so looking for a dark colour)

I love next coats for B but my favourite ever was from jasper conran in debenhams. Another great place is Sainsburys - always really well lined.
B is 3 but wears age 4-5 for height rather than width and I've found age 4 from next perfect but from Sainsburys would probably need a bigger size if he's wearing a jumper underneath.

My boys have Monsoon coats (I only ever buy in the sale mind) they seem well padded and warm but not too heavy as I like to layer the boys up. They also have Hatley rain coats which I brought big and have lasted a year and still fit, they are well lined and quite heavy for a raincoat. I did see some nice ones in Sainsburys today too.
I have the opposite problem as my boys are petite. Finding out 2-3 and age 3 are the same size (and 3-4 and age 4) has helped with clothes shopping for my boys x

Last year in Sept Noah had a parka from Matalan! Its gorgeous snd has only just outgrown him.

We will be trying to find a similar one again for this winter x

We had a coat from Zara last year, couldn't fault it. We were bought one last Christmas (size 3 yr) from m&s that will fit him this year (he's not even 2.5 yet!), it's bright yellow so might have a little look in next as I've seen a lovely navy one... x

Verbaudet do lovely boys coats and jackets. They send me catalogues and I spied a lovely red one in the most recent one, it has a removable fleece jacket that can be worn on its own. Its reduced at the mo, I think it's £21. I got Matthew a lovely one last year and it was fab, a gorgeous yellow colour and (this may sound like a strange thing to be sold on), the zip was really easy to zip up, quite a handy feature with a wriggly toddler who hates putting his jacket on!

Same as Kay Kay. I've got coats for my two for the past couple of years from Verbaudet. I love their clothes! Last year I got the double layer coats with the removable fleeces and they were brilliant, especially as the inner layer poppers into the outer one. This year I've bought a khaki duffle coat with hood for my son. Quality is really good and price is reasonable - I got it for £23 at the weekend when they had a deal on.

I second M&s coats - I work for them so going to be abit biased but I think they are fab, lots of extra detailing and features in them like storm wear to repel moisture and also they often have a good thermal rating and elasticated wrists too to keep the warmth in and gloves on.

The ones I have had from my sister have been M&S duffle coats. I really liked the padded one though and yep may have to find one is my size lol.

Its not just a jacket, this is a navy blue quilted M&S Jacket

I love the 3 in 1 coats made by companies like Trespass or Regatta! You get a wind and waterproof (taped seams) outer coat and a warm zip in fleece. The coat or fleece can be worn on it's own or combined to make a really warm practical waterproof coat! They do up high around the neck and you can adjust the sleeve ends to sit snuggly around their wrists/gloves.

I have them for my kids who and 5 and 9 :)

I had great ones from Next. They were waterproof, warm and had hoods.

I think it's so hard to find winter coats with hoods now! Only thing is i also like them to be longer than jacket-so hard to tick all boxes! I got a good one from h&m too.

My boys live in Next clothes. Harry's 2.5 and his coat still fits fine from last year. It was Jack's previously so will be used 3 winters in a row and it's still as good as new.

I'm going to Next tomorrow to look for a new one for Jack, he starts school on Monday and I want a navy blue or khaki one with a hood but with no fur on the hood. He has autism and can't stand the feeling of the fur, it makes him gag!
