Hi ladies, I'm currently 6 months pregnant and I have only ever been to my 12 week scan, never knew what gender or if the baby is okay. I have never liked my midwife or doctor so I haven't attended any anti-natal appointments or check-ups.
I boosted my confidence for me going today and I was petrified as I haven't felt any movement at all today, usually I can tell when it moves but not today.
So I was called in and she measured my blood pressure and tested my urine for protein. My blood pressure was a little too high, so there is a possibility that I have preeclampsia, and also a tiny percentage of protein in my urine. She measured baby and it's really small so this explains the tiny bump, well fat, they have referred me to a growth appointment. I keep beating myself up today thinking that I might have caused this by not eating enough or working too hard.
She was very supportive and helpful I came home with at-least 20 leaflets from her on different topics. This sounds horrendous but I haven't bought anything for this baby not even some clothes or cot. From what the lady said is that the baby will most likely come early but it's really difficult to tell when. Is there a way of getting more prepared for the early birth?*
I was able to find out the gender and I'm expecting a girl and she is really cute on scans :).* Also I have been needing the toilet more but not producing any urine only today after I was sat on the toilet for about 10 mins then I went to bed and gave a gush of blood and liquid sweet smelling. <TMI< should I be concerned? Thanks

You should contact your midwife about leaking blood and liquids and do so immediately.

Also, please DO NOT skip your check ups just because you dislike the midwife, they are in place for a reason!

And another thing, this forum is really great for information and support but it is NOT a substitute for proper medical advise. I have seen a lot of posts from you on different threads raising some serious issues. If you are concerned about yours or your daughter's well being, you must contact your midwife/doctor.

I have had the midwife round this morning and baby is doing well so it's good news :)

Possible pre-eclampsia is nothing to be complacent about, I know from experience. I would seriously look up symptoms and the consequences as this can turn serious quickly and you would need to seek urgent medical advice. However small amounts of protein in the urine can be for a number of reasons and your BP could have been due to being worried. Having a baby early can be a traumatic experience, especially if they have to stay in hospital for a long period of time. You may want to request a look around the Neonatal unit if you are likely to have a premature birth as this might help put your mind at rest.

You sound like perhaps you have some issues with anxiety and therefore may want to speak to your midwife or GP for support. If you do not like the midwife available to you locally speak to your surgery or your assigned hospital and see if they can offer you alternative appointments with another medical professional.

Personally I wouldn't skip any appointments we have then for a reason.
All these problems could have been picked up. You can always ask for a change of midwife if you are not happy or hospital but you may find that alot of nhs trusts run the same or very similar.
In regards to buying anything I never did with this one until about 27 weeks. Am currently now 40+3

I have just had a long hard look at the symptoms for preeclampsia and I have quite a few: heartburn, protein in urine, nausea, high bp, head aches (bad ones) and the baby is small. Now I am really panicked, what will happen to me and the baby?
The NHS says that I may need to be admitted to hospital. I just spoke on the phone to 111 and they said I can go to A&E, but I could go to my doctors and get the correct tests done. I will contact my midwife and update. If I have anxiety is there medication or counciling etc.?
I will ask for a look around the Neonatal unit and I expect its nice. I had a scan yesterday and I have got a new midwife, she is really nice and very helpful. I will be attending regular appointments from now on as I have created lots of problems by not attending for so long.
I will update*later. Really really worried now, but thank you for making me aware of this health problem.

On my way to A&E as my midwife reccond it would be best to make sure everything is okay... I will be back on when i get there because I will have to wait around 4 hours. Thanks for the help but I'm getting more worried :(

Good luck and I hope all is well with you and your little baby girl.

never heard of the miwife coming round on demand because of a concern....

Ummm me neither :fib:

Does depend on where you live as in some rural places midwifes will do home visits routinely rather than asking people to come into a GP surgery due to how spread out or isolated people may be.

Be careful of Dr google though Turn as it is not always helpful. A lot of what you describe could just be normal pregnancy symptoms however it is important to mention any concerns to your midwife. Depending on what gestation you are (number of weeks) will make a difference where you are referred to and if in the third trimester it is usually the maternity day triage unit.

If you do have issues with anxiety then yes you may be looking at medication or cognitive treatment such as counselling but more importantly it is about getting the right support from medical professionals.

so you have had no appointments....then you got called in a same day and got a gender and growth scan (which is amazing to get one so fast....then got referred for a growth scan ...then the midwife came out to your house the next day because of you gushing blood, said the baby was fine, then sent you to a&e..things are sounding very peculiar......

It all sounds way too convenient too. I call bull :fib:

How is it peculiar? It isn't bull I'm sorry if my wording makes it seem like it. I didn't like my midwife, they got me a new one, then the doctors had a cancellation and rang me if I wanted to go in that day as I was booked in for 24th April originally. I had my first appointment at 12 weeks but no appointment until now, due to me disliking the midwife as she always blamed me for things and also me working is really difficult whilst going to anti-natal appointments. My midwife wants to keep a close eye on me because of the baby being smaller than normal, I just text her and she asked if she was able to come round and do it at home instead of at the doctors so I could get seen quickly. My midwife isn't able to keep coming over checking on me so that's why I'm at A&E now I have been seen once. My bp is still high, the baby's heart rate it's like a galloping horse and also my blood is being tested to check liver and kidney I think. When I get called back I believe they will be doing an ultrasound to check the blood flow from the placenta to the baby, baby's breathing rate, and I think a cardiotocography. Being in hospital has made my anxiety rocket :( will keep you posted. I think they may keep me in overnight...

It does depend on where you live i.e in midwives coming to you, my midwife came to me later on in pregnancy so i didnt have to walk to the drs. I assume she would have came or sent someone if i was bleeding and couldnt get to hospital tho... Depends on how much blood loss i suppose tho
I dont kno why she said go to a&e tho, should be sent to maternity day assesment, triage.
As for scan, for growth and check on baby if worried i also had the following day, sometimes even the same day, again depends on hospital.

She sent me to A&E because of the bleeding as it was fresh, I am now in the maternity unit...

What have they said they'll do now you're there to stop the fluid and the bleeding?

My midwife did home visits in my last pregnancy. I thought it was normal?
Either way keep us posted. Hopefully you and your baby are fine. :)

So after all day in A&E and in the maternity unit they have diagnosed me with premature labour, this petrified me how can this happen? What have I done wrong, if I would have attended my appointments then this won't have happened :(! I'm devastated that I'm only 27 weeks why can't I be 37 weeks?! The nurse gave me a progesterone injection and tocolytics. <<Or so I think as I'm really shuck up and so is the OH. I'm really trying to be positive but that's hard when the baby's small and in a ward with other mums going through the same thing. I feel mixed emotions and watching mum channels on YouTube really help, OH has just gone home as I need some more clothes and he needs to buy some stuff NOW for her! I have been having slight contractions and I'm only 1.5cm dilated so far but i'm staying in until Friday I think? I think I will ask for magnesium to slow it down because mums on google have been putting that it's worked for them, but everyone is different. I am being monitored every 30mins and the nurse is really nice. I asked the nurse why I have gone into premature labour she said probably because I have preeclampsia and I haven't attended clinic. In regards to stopping the bleeding I've been spotting since 4pm, but I'm just having to where a pad and also I'm not allowed to go to the toilet on my own which is really annoying... She is giving off lots of movement I think my bump is now present or that could just be the vest top and leggings. I'm hoping that she will stay put until at least 30weeks+ has anyone experienced premature labour? If so what was your outcome?(if you don't mind me asking) thanks xx

My sister did with her second. She wasn't given any approximate length of stay, just followed instructions, took what was given and baby ended up being born 2 weeks late.
You're in the right place. Trust in the qualified staff around you, not mums on facebook ot google. What worked for them could be dangerous for others. X
